“Daniel Lorenz, 23, of Texas is suing Wal-Mart for religious discrimination, claiming he was fired from his job as a night stocker simply for wearing a Muslim head-dress, Catholic priest’s shirt, and giant crucifix necklace, which his religion requires. In court this week, Lorenz told the judge he follows the Universal Belief System, a faith he founded himself in 2001. Wal-Mart is arguing both that the UBS is not a valid religion, and that Lorenz was often seen outside work in normal clothing, a fact Lorenz ascribes to the “ever-evolving” nature of the Universal Belief System.”
Reminds me of a quote from the Reverend Brother Luni, a sixties holdover I met in Salt Lake who, like Lorenz, was a founder of his own religion.
What is a “valid” religion? No religions are valid, even atheism. Religions are about faith, not proof (This is not a criticism, my faithful friends, just an observation). If they were valid, then there wouldn’t be so much debate about them. There aren’t wars about algebra.
I won’t be that sure!
ever seen arguments between maths high priests?
I humbly think that the holy Inquisition should have dealt with those !§*à%@ Bourbakians
