Anybody else here had one of these, and how long were you off the uni for after it? Mine is a paraumbilical hernia just above my belly button if that makes a difference, and I believe the op will be a keyhole - I only go in for the day.
When I did my pre-op stuff I put down my activities as kayaking, cycling and rock climbing. The kayaking and rock climbing are clearly things which work the abdominal muscles - I didn’t mention unicycling and suggested I should be able to go cycling a bit earlier (I’ll be out on the road bike).
If having that form of hernia repaired sure, being an athletic person helps, it is keyhole keyhole, and the patient is in and out in one day.
But, following the procedure it can take a fair old while to stand up straight without pain. Also, if the repair involves mesh implantation the natural tissue needs time to integrate effectively with it before any significant pressure is exerted. And, as always, the general anaesthetic will nail you for a few days.
Best advice? Take the time to allow the repair to be effective. Plenty of time for unicycling soon enough after that.
I had bilateral ungunal hernia surgery a few years ago, I think I was off the uni for about two weeks. Even then I took it slow at first. Definately heed your Doctor’s advice, you don’t want to do more damage.

Thanks all - 2 weeks is actually rather less than I was afraid it might be. Am used to injury, having missed most of this year with a dodgy knee which is only just getting back to normal.
