I recently bought a unicycle. I am new to riding one. I noticed that after assembling the unicycle it wobbles. The screws to the bearing caps do not tighten all the way. I notice it starts to turn directions… is this normal should those screws be tight…
yeah they should be tight.
Did you happen to buy the unicycle off of ebay?
thank you… !
no… I bought it from jugglingstore.com
it’s a sun… (I KNOW) :o)
anyways… the nuts have these hard plastic barriers in them making it impossible to screw tighter…
Ebay unicycles are offen better than people think!
can you post a picture?
There are some quality unicycles that you can purchase on ebay, but you have to be careful and weed out the toys from the real unicycles.
of what… the bike or the nuts?
LOL!
they may of given me the wrong hardware as I was going to purchase a Torker at first
: o )
there!
Bloo!
Oh that looks like a lock nut that is there (plastic) to hold it on maybe try putting it on and see with some more pressure you can get it on. Don’t put a ton my, but definitely tork it a good bit they can be tuff to first get on.
Also when putting the bearing caps on do each a little bit do not put on on all the way than the other and try to keep the pressure somewhat equal.
thanks bunches!
Yep hope that fixes it if not I am shure you can pick some nuts at a hardware store to work if it comes to that.
Howdy. Welcome. This is a thread that is unicycle hardware related and should go in RSU, not Just Conversation. You’ll get a better response in that forum.
Main cap bearings should not be tightened all the way or they will bind. The nuts you show in your photo are NyLock nuts and are designed to lock and remain in place even if the nuts are not torqued down tightly. A 10mm socket or wrench should fit these nuts. You have to be Herculean to tighten them by hand.
To tighten main cap bearings correctly, tighten them evenly with a wrench so that the clamps firmly (but not tightly) hold the bearings. Spin the wheel and it should very slowly coast to a stop. Tighten one bearing until it just starts to bind, that is the wheel coasts to a stop too quickly. Back those bearing nuts off until the wheel spins freely again and repeat on the other side.
The procedure for adjusting main cap barings correctly can be found in the RSU forum using the search function. It is also listed in several tutorials scattered about the unicyclist.com fora and various places on the web.
