Help with CroMO hub "test" / ident - Nimbus Oregon

Hello,
I have a Nimbus Oregon from UDC UK - and although I am aware that all Oregons are confirmed as being shipped with the tough CroMO hub, I’d like to make 100% after discovering mine has been supplied with a hub bearing the wrong hub sleeve marking of “ISIS DRIVE LT” - which I believe is for the aluminium version of the super wide hub.

I naturally want to make dead sure that I don’t have the “light” version of the hub without knowing and to practically prove to myself that there was no oversight with this Oregon’s wheel build.

I looked into testing CroMo vs Alu and read that a magnet test is pretty much infallible. I took off a crank and a magnet did indeed stick to my spindle - so I take this to mean it is a cromo hub with the wrong sleeve on…

Am I right? Is there any other signs, indicators that will help me to confirm that I have the tougher hub by looking at the splines etc.?

Also, do other Oregon owners out there have with the “ISIS drive LT” sleeve on their hubs? It was quite confusing for me as I see on UDC US that both the Impulse and Oregon hubs are using the same photo with the LT mark, so it looks like it is hard to identify if you actually have the CroMo / Oregon variant or the aluminium, Impulse one…

I have been assured by UDC UK that if I were to have the auminium one - which although is impossible according the the factory, that in fact it would be just as durable and hard to snap, and actually possible better the the CroMo one…

I still find this hard to believe having read here on the forum countless people “upgrading” to the Oregon hub precisely because it is the tougher option.

I also like to know 100% for certain that the product I have bought is as was describe and is the best it can be (and is as it was designed)…

Any help in putting my mind to rest with this would be gratefully received,

Cheers
Felix

Your good, mine is the same as yours.

Could LT possibly imply ‘Left’ ? Is LT on the side of the hub that goes into the left side of the frame?

Glenn

Thanks for the confirmation, Knoxuni!

No, I had it confirmed that LT stands for Light and that some batch of Oregons had the hubs sleeved with the wrong sleeve… My desire, being a tad obsessed with knowing my unicycles are A-grade, was to test practically if the hub I have hidden under this sleeve was indeed the cromo version.

your welcome!

I’d say go out and try to break it, and have as much fun doing so as possible. Then if it ever breaks and it’s the wrong one, you should get a free replacement anyway!

Agreed. Just don’t break yourself.

Breaking your self is half he fun
