I have had my kh 20 for a few days and have been out on it almost all day every day since it arrived and I finished fitting it together and yesterday I noteced that the spokes had started twanging, my last uni did the same before and after I rebuilt its wheel but after tweeking the spokes after almost every ride I managed to get it to stop but my first uni I got a cheap,no name 20" starter uni never did this even after alot of quite heavy jumping (I was very suprised it never broke) Does this happen to other people or it it something I am doing wrong? (should I be lubricating my spokes where they cross over?) Is it anything to worry about? (can it just be left?) any advise or suggestions will be greatly apretiated
That sort of noise is common with mass produced wheels.
It can be due to the spokes rubbing each other where they cross. It can be due to spokes untwisting. It can be caused by spokes that are too loose. It can be caused by spokes that are not evenly tensioned and properly stress relieved. It can be caused by the spoke nipples settling in. It can be caused by the spoke shoulders settling in to the hub.
Check if all the spokes are all evenly tight. Pluck them and see if they have a similar tone. If you suspect that some are loose you can tighten them yourself and stress relieve them afterwards. Or take it to a bike shop for a final round of spoke tensioning.
Then lightly oil each of the spoke crossings.
ok I think il tighten them and oil them now thanks then I can get out and try out my new trials corse
