Any suggestions for picking out my very first unicycle would be greatly appreciated! Thank you one-wheelers!
Got any friends who ride?
Not to be discouraging, but itās really, really, really hard. Did I mention how hard it is to learn unicycling?
Most folks start out on a cheapie 20" like a Sun ($50-75), then if you get the spark you can go as big as your wallet can afford.
Put your money into time and effort, it takes years to get good on unicyling.
That said, unicycling is my number one sport going on three years, surpassing biking, skiing, trail running, whitewater kayaking, etcā¦i canāt tell you how much satisfaction I get from riding such a silly thing
Today I rode seven miles of flowing single track, rode over a twenty foot log bridge, then rode a wooden ramped trail like something out of the West Shore, then did some dirt bmx jumps, such a hoot and way more on a muni than it would have been on a bike.
And the best part? I smoked some mountain bikers up a long hill
So you need to decide if youāll just start with a cheap one or, if you already know what kind of unicycling interests you, get a nicer one thatās intended for that type of riding. Unless you want to get into road riding; Iād still start with a 24" or 20". That first ālearnerā uni is always handy, and great for creating other unicyclists for you to ride with later!
