Help Me, Just starting out...

I race on my mountain bike, but getting a unicycle seems appealing because it would be a purely FUN activity, with no events for me to train for. Torker LX’s are on sale new on eBay for 80-90 bucks, but here’s the thing: I’m 6’4" with a 36" inseam. Do unicycles work like bikes, where your leg has to be fully extended at the 6 O’clock position, or does seat tube (sry, I only know biking terms) length not matter so much? If it does, should I get a 26" unicycle since my legs are so long? Would a 24" wheel be sufficient?
thanks for any and all suggestions

the lx should come with a 400 mm seat post witch should be plenty long for you(i have a 32"inseam and i have mine at the lowest point) but its mainly personal preferance on the leg position thing.

o and welcome!!uni’ing rocks!!

edit:i just read its the 24 your looking at and that will defenitly be a good sizefor your hite

I’m not that tall at all, but it occurs to me maybe a 24" would be better than a 20" wheel. You will probably get more replies on this.

Indeed, welcome to unicycling!!!

26 is a bit big to learn on

go with the 24 instead of the 20 if you dont want to look silly and have to buy a huge seatpost

Thanks
I think I’ll go with the Torker LX 24". This should be fun!

aaahhh fooey… ive had two friends learn on a 28 and one leanred to fremount on my coker… so i dont think it matters to much

Do keep us posted on your progress.
When are you looking at getting the uni?

And to answer your leg-length question, when seated on the uni, place your heel on the pedal, with the pedal at 6 o’clock the leg should be straight but not locked.
Yeah, pretty much the same as it is on a b*ke.
The 24 will be the better learning option and you’ll probably want to go to a 26 before too very long. Then you’ll wonder if a Coker (off-road) will allow you to keep up with your MB buddies and the answer will be ‘sometimes’. Some of the newer geared unis might do the trick for you as well.

Welcome to the fora.

Fun.

You’ll definately have fun. I’ve been riding for 2 and a half months, and I just got a uni for the trails. I havn’t riden my MTB ever since.

Enjoy!
