i want to surf the net and post here. i want to see attached pictures and be able to load pics/vids in my gallery and take pidtures all with the same device.
is that possible?
i dont care about the size (no shared keys/no lap top)
i just want to rid my self of this huge PC…is there a portable that has a hard-drive sorta thng so i can save stuff for later?
300 bucks is my mark.
if i cant take pics, i want to be able to load them from my crap cam on to the device then post them later.
sounds like you need a cheap laptop and a wifi hub. either that or a really fancy PDA/cell phone/camera/mp3 player that’s almost a small laptop. they have some devices being dubbed “hip-top” computers, but they’re basically fancy pdas with cellular web access.
A buddy of mine has a cell that takes photos and posts them to his flikr site automagicaly. Failing that, a laptop with a cell-phone hookup to dial onto the net… But that’s prolly going to be too much…
However, sounds to me like a laptop is the best bet or you. Ebay has some good deals if you look… A friend got a pretty sweet IBM Thinkpad for something like $500 Cdn…
I dont know if there are currently any systems out there that will both take pictures and surf the web for under 300. There are a few out there, the sidekick phone from Tmobile comes to mind but with monthly fees its going to cost you.
If you want a wireless conection to take with you and get free internet from the neighbors/ coffee bar hot spots around town the way to go is a laptop with a wireless card like mark said.
If your just looking to get a smaller computer at home you may want to check out the newish Mac Mini’s you can use your current moniter and keyboard and then have a sweet system that is smaller than your game cube. They run a tad over the 500 mark though…
T-MOBILE IPAQ H6315 Pocket PC PDA Cell Phone for T-Mobile
Make calls, send e-mails, snap pictures, surf the Web, send picture messages, use software and more / Bluetooth and 802.11b Capabilities
I have the MDA with T-mobile service. It’s painfully slow. That one probably won’t be any better. T-mobile’s network currently doesn’t support EDGE, nor do these smartphones once they upgrade the network.
If you’re going to go the smartphone route, Cingular’s network has edge and sprint has a different system altogether that’s also a little faster than dialup.
However, you’re asking a lot from a device. You’re probably best off getting a laptop and set up a wifi network in your home.
i want somthing like what had in cabin 2 in Cali…did you get a new one yet? i remember you saying you were. can that thing post pictures from my camera and show attached pictures on the forum? can it hook up to a digi cam so i can load pics to here or ebay etc?
That’s the one I had in Cali. I’m still searching for the perfect setup for me. Right now I’m thinking of getting a smallish cellphone that has bluetooth (and some internet capabilities) and then get a pda that would connect to the phone via bluetooth and use the phone to hook up to the 'net. The mda is just too big to carry around everywhere all the time and I can’t find a smartphone that has everything I need, such as Tri or Quad-band, edge, wifi. I want something that is fast (at least better than dialup) and works in europe.
It can’t hook up to a digital camera, that I’m aware of, but it does have an SD card slot, so if your camera uses that, then you could access the pics and upload them.
EDGE is the next step up from GSM/GPRS, which is what the mda is capable of.
Jag, for years now I’ve talked about the “Get Jagur Cable Internet Fund”.
I say, you find out the cost of setting up cable internet, or at least DSL, and what a few months of service costs, and then set up a paypal account for it. I’d donate some funds to it. Because if anyone deserves better net, you do.
I have been thinking about getting an ibook for traveling europe with this winter, would the Wifi connection have any trouble over there, or would I need to get a different card to handle different frequencies.
