Help ID knee/shin guards

What kind of knee/shin guards is (I think) Adam Ryznar wearing in that
one scene with the weird statue carved into the side of a hill? I think
Dan Heaton was wearing those same ones in the North Shore Trails shoot
as well. Help?

John

I think you are referring to the old style Fox 911 pads. Fox has since discontinued that design for the 911 pads. The new 911 pads are different. I don’t know where you can still find the old style 911 pads for sale. Unicycle.com used to have them, but I think they’re sold out.

You can see the new style 911 pads at

I have not tried the new style 911 pads so I don’t know how they would work for unicycling.

The new ones look cool too. It looks like the sizes are more versatile
than the Roach and SixSixOne pads. I’ve got big legs and the SixSixOnes I
got do fit, but just barely, and it took a couple of weeks to break them
in. The Fox pads look like they have hard plastic guards for the knees
and shins as well, which someone was talking about a while back when he
cut his knee open on a rock, the rock having cut through his Roach pads.
It was mentioned that plastic guards might be more likely to glance off
the obstacle and better protect the limbs contained within.

I do appreciate the info!

Buy the 911 pads and I’ll send you some cash for your Roach.

I thought I saw some of the Fox pads at PRicepoint.com. But not sure.

Work the maze.

Cool. PricePoint does have the old style 911 pads. But they only have medium and small. No large. Large is the adult size. Medium and small are more of a kids size.

I’m 5’11" and weigh 145 lbs or so, will the medium be too small? The price looks damn good.

Re: Help ID knee/shin guards

You mean my 661s? I thought you already had a set of those? Measure
your legs, they may be too big for you if you’re skinny.

Almost certainly the medium would be too small for you. I’m 6’ and I wear the large.

If you are looking at th 661’s and not the old Fox pads and you
are concerned about price, call John Drummond and ask him if he
will match the price. John, probably has the larges.

I am 5’9" and weigh 158. I originally ordered the Mediums 661’s and had to send them back because they didn’t fit around my calves. The Large size did the trick - has plenty of wrap around room.

My larger calf is 16 1/4" and the mediums didn’t wrap around well enough. If your calves are an inch less, then, I think, the pads will wrap around with enough fabric.

I can’t remember if the larges were longer, but if they are, then that minimizes the pads dropping off the knee. I have never had a problem when riding. I rode for an afternoon of fire roads and never had to adjust them up or down. I do drops off curbs and they haven’t slipped either.

The calf measurement really should be included in the sizing.

Work the maze.
