I’m really wanting to learn to ride. But I’m not sure what unicycle I should get. It’s going to be a Christmas present, and can’t be to expansive. Probably no more then $150, hopefully a little less.
I’m not sure what all I’ll be using it for. But I do live out in the country so it’s gonna be kinda rough terrain. Gravel, and hard somewhat bumpy dirt. Along with pavement. And concert when I go off to collage in a few years.
I would like to do some tricks, but I was thinking probably a 24, maybe a 20.
I’m about 5" 7.
I don’t think theirs anywhere for me to buy a unicycle around where I live. So I’m probably going to get it online.
Heres 3 that I’ve found. Are any of them a good choice? Or does anyone know of a better choice for me? Thanks for any help XD
I was in your shoes a couple weeks ago. I did weeks of research and for 150 bucks I got a torker lx. and I love it. very easy to learn to ride on. found the best deal on cyclesportandfitness.com and got it in two days.
Yea, I think the Torkey Lx 24" is what I’m leaning torwds. But does anyone have any other suggestions?

I vote Club, I trust Nimbus and I’m not sure if the Torker LX uses the standard 4 bolt pattern. Some Torkers do and some don’t. It the LX doesn’t have the standard 4 bolt pattern it will make upgrading the seat difficult down the line.
Just to be up front: I don’t have either of these uni’s, and I have never ridden them. I was looking at uni’s in this pricepoint a while back and I was moving towards the club. I ended up getting a uni off of craiglist instead and I haven’t done any research since.
There are a lot of threads by people who bought the LX, and later wanted a more comfy seat. The LX has a Miyata style mount, and so the seat upgrade will have to include the cost of a new seatpost. So you’re looking at $60-$80 down the road.
I have read in the forums that the club saddle isn’t too bad. You could get the club with the Nimbus Gel seat and still be under $150 including shipping.
The other thing is that from what I understand you will be able to put a bigger tire on the club than the LX fits. On the older LX’s some people hammered the underside of the crown to give it more tire clearance, but I don’t think you could do that with the new ones. You probably won’t be changing the tire too soon, but it might be nice to have the option later.
My first unicycle was a UDC Club 24". It was a very good learner unicycle and still sees use despite my having gotten two higher end unicycles since. The seat is decent. Both the Nimbus Gel and KH Freeride are noticeably more comfortable but I’ve ridden several miles at a time on the Club without problems. Still, it’s probably worth the $20 to upgrade to the Nimbus Gel saddle (especially with the $20 off sale they’re running on the Club until the end of November).
I learned to ride on the stock 127mm cranks but later put on 152mm Torker LX cranks and found they greatly improved my control. I think it might have been slightly easier to learn on the 152mm cranks from the beginning.
It’s about 300 $
So maybe this is not an option. But if I really lived out in bumpy dirt roadsville, I would want the soft cushy low pressure 24x3 tire. An lx 20 would be great to learn on if you can find a paved place next to a fence or wall. The hard skinny 20 tire would have a rougher time on dirt roads. An lx 24 would be better, but the 24x3 muni is the Jeep of unis.
Thanks for all the suggestions. But if the biggest problem of the Toker Unistar LX 24" is the seat, then I think it’s what I’m going to get. If it’s really that bad then I’ll cut it open, add some cushioning, then duct tape it closed XD
I would say the LX is best choice. The only problem is the seat and even that isnt toooooo horrible.
when I started two years ago I got the lx. as soon as i learned to hop, the rim bent, and one of the cranks snapped in half. but you might not be the kind of person to try large drops. it is a great freestyle uni and a beginner trials.
Ask for $150 and save up till you can get a nimbus trials. You wont ruin it. it lasts. IMO it is well worth the extra money.
how about a torker cx?
i didnt read im sorry. LX seems nice
