Hello,new to this site

Hello everyone,my name is Mike. I live in the New Orleans area and obviously ride unicycles. I learned to ride when I was 12 and helping a friend clean out his shed. There in the corner was a unicycle, when I asked him about it he went on to say that he had it a couple of years and never could ride it. I borrowed it and by the next evening I was riding about half a city block and within a week or so could go just about anywhere. Unfortunatley I didn’t ride much between the ages of 14-37. About 2 years ago I decided to ride again for fitness and now ride everday. I am hooked again. I ride very well, but pretty much just ride,no real tricks or anything, but I am looking forward to expanding my skills. I of course freemount and I can “cut” pretty good(if that’s a good term). I am looking forward to getting some good conversation and tips from this site.

Awesome. Let me be the first to say welcome aboard!

Yeah, and let me be the second lol…

i’ll be in for number three
'tis good to have u

explain ‘cutting’?

and give us some more info about the kind of uni u ride and the kind of riding u do?

Welcome to the site. We are about the same age. I started riding about 1.5 years ago. It will definitely give you a work out. Memphis isn’t an awful drive for you, there is a real active club there, and most are up for rides just about anytime you call.

We are getting together next weekend for a ride in Central TN. Check out the thread for Fall Unicycle Rendevous in REC.SPORT.UNICYCLING

That is the best pic i have ever seen. I am not the same age.

I have a sister who lives in Cordova,so I do get to Memphis a couple times a year. Next time I’ll bring the Uni and look you all up.
I ride mostly for fitness at this point, about 5 miles a day,5 days a week. I really enjoy riding and am looking forward to expanding my skills. I ride up and down the storm levee’s here in New Orleans, since we don’t have mountains, and I like that the most. I try to ride down the roughest part of the grass on side the road whenever I can. By cutting ,I obviously don’t know the correct term,I just mean leaning way over and twisting sharply to back upright in the oppsite direction. That’s the best way I can describe it. I just started working on idleing and trying to ride backwards. I ride a 24" Torker LX/DX and just ordered a CX for my 10 year old son.
Mike

for idling, slow down
u’re probably trying to move too fast

for riding backwards, relax your hips

are u using the …
riding, stop, one revolution back, stop, forward
next time two revolutions back
next time three revolutions…
system to learn backwards?

Gild,I have been just trying to start off going backwards. Your way seems to be a good idea,
i am going to try it tonite.
thanks,
Mike
