hello from Unick

Hi,

I’m new to this newsgroup, and basically to unicycling in general.

My unicycle story: I wanted a unicycle originally as off-season training
for skiing. I didn’t get a unicycle for Christmas as I was expecting, so I
purchased my own and it arrived in January. I learned to ride a bit, and
was beginning to free mount, but early in February I broke my heel on a
bad landing off a big air jump, down hill skiing. Anyways, I’ve just
started back to the unicycle, and I’m making some decent length rides,
working on my free mounting, hopping, and my turning also.

Me: I’m a senior in high school, and I’m actually using “learning to
unicycle” as my senior project. I’m planning to attend Clarkson
University next year. Anyone live up there? As you may have guessed, I
love skiing. I also camp and hike, and as soon as I have the money,
I’m going to start rock climbing. I live in Hartland, Connecticut.

My unicycle: I bought a United 24" Mountain Unicycle from unicyclesource
dot com. It has a Kenda tire, Suzue 36-hole high-flange cotterless hub,
Sun Rhynolite double-walled lightweight anodized rim with nipple eyelets,
Stainless steel 14-gauge spokes and brass nipples, all built by Kovachi.
6-inch cotterless crank arms, with Odyssey Twisted PC pro pedals (red). I
have a Miyata seat (red also) That I converted to an air and gel seat. I’m
quite proud of my unicycle as you can see.

So far, I can ride straight, freemount (most of the time), Turn left (but
not right… ?),and drop curbs. Im still pretty clumsy though.

I’m still learning most things, and can use all the help I can get, I’ve
read everything I can find online about unicycling, and seen the
“Universe” video, amazing, I cant wait to find out more.

Thanks for listening

I just helped a friend’s wife get him get one of those for his birthday.

My friend isn’t quite as far along as you are. He’s riding very short
distances (20-30 ft) and told me this morning that he’s had a few
successful freemounts now.
