Hello,
I’m soon to be a novice uncyclist (along with my son) and this is my first post on this forum.
Today I ordered a DRS Solo Pro 26". I’m told it is a clone of the Torker LX, and it looks like it is. The story is that BMX International, who was supplying Torker in Australia, felt the price of the Torker was getting too high so they decided to have the identical unis manufactured with the DRS branding. I would like to know if anyone can confirm this. They can be seen here.
My story…I turned 60 this year and though I’m still reasonably active I notice I’m not as strong nor agile as I once was. I’m a single parent to an 8 yr old boy who is very active and athletic. Long story short, we decided to take up unicycling. He, of course wants to learn tricks and sees himself jumping onto and over rocks and various other obstacles and I believe one day he will. He is getting the 20" version of the same uni. As for me, I would like to learn how to ride on the street and possibly ride on some trails in the bush here. I have discovered I don’t heal from injury nearly as fast as I once did.
We are hoping to take delivery of our unicycles in the next day or two and will report back on our progress, or lack thereof. I have enjoyed reading the posts on this forum and look forward to being able to contribute.
Cheers,
UniSpud
cool. I have no idea about the DRS thing but if you can take some pictures when you receive them we should be able to tell if they are at least similar.
Good luck on learning. with both a 20 and 24 you could switch back and forth and answer the age old question of which is better for learning (answer: it depends on the person)
If you let us know whereabouts in Oz you are the friendly folks here could probably point you towards some local riders if you want unicycling company.
Welcome to the forums!

Welcome…you have a great deal of fun, frustration and achievement ahead of you.
Be bold, try everything, practice every day even if it’s just for five minutes and keep us posted on your progress.
The boy will bounce but, as an older rider, I can’t recommend a good set of protection highly enough. Get gloves and a helmet for the basics but I confess I’m grateful of my knee/shin pads and elbow pads too…it makes you braver and hurts a lot less

Thanks for the words of encouragement and support. I’ll keep you posted. My son is about to jump out of his skin waiting for the unicycle. I’ve been thinking about protective gear, does anyone know of a good place in Australia to purchase some?
I must admit, I’m more excited about this than I have been in a long time. I used to ride motorcycles and was a long distance rider. I remember those days fondly and am looking forward to a shared joy with my son. I’m not much of a computer gamer (one of his persuits) so this will give us something to do together.
