Just thought I would say hi as I am new to this site and unicycling. I am so psyched about learning to ride this wonderful contraption and meeting others who ride!
It all started a year ago when I saw a guy riding around near my old high school. I knew I had to learn to ride one of those things.
Over the course of a year the thought just wouldn’t leave me alone! I was having unicycle dreams and I didn’t even know how to ride one!
Two weeks ago cognitive dissonance reached the point where I had to satisfy my unmet need for a unicycle or go absolutely insane. In response to the deep pain in my soul caused by wanting (NEEDING!) a unicycle and not having one, I started researching on the WWW. OH MY! There was really that much going on with unicyling? I couldn’t believe it! The fact that I live and grew up less than seven miles from Unicycle.com’s warehouse just about popped my head! A REAL unicycle store with nothing but unicycles, just down the street! So I promptly called John, (GREAT guy!)who spent several hours helping me pick out my new baby.
Soooo, I am learning to ride on my new 20" Onza trials (after watching me and trying it my buddy dubbed it the “On za face,” SMACK!). I now have no need or have the time to eat, sleep, bathe, or watch television. I have had to stop a bit though to nurse my bruised nads but I hope that after a while I will figure out how to prevent the glandular damage. I have high hopes and am now riding about three meters at a time after two days. Is that good? I have no idea.
So that’s my very short unicycling story. It seems like unicyclists are a great group of people and I hope to learn fast and meet you all on the trail, street, ride, forum, etc.!
I think it’s a common reaction… before I looked on the internet for unicycling if anyone had suggested going off-road or doing trials I’d have thought they were odd. Now, though, I know it for a fact…
“I was having unicycle dreams and I didn’t even know how to ride one!”
I’ve been riding since May last year passionately and I still haven’t had a unicycling dream. I can’t stand it. Keep up the good work, unicycling will just keep getting better and better.
noodle – Welcome! Good luck and congratulations – you are learning fast! Unlimited amounts of fun await you, at last!
Andrew – have you tried riding at night right before going to sleep? Or, try to take a nap right after a long ride. I bet you HAVE had unicycle dreams, but you just don’t remember them. I’ve had two. I only remember the first one, because it happened just before the alarm clock went off. The second dream MUST have happened, because I had a memory of trying something new. When I got my uni out, I realized that I hadn’t ACTUALLY tried the new thing – so I must have tried it in a dream (but forgot the dream).
This might sound a bit spacey or New Agey, but right before going to sleep, tell yourself that you WILL have a unicycle dream and you WILL remember it when you wake up. Keep trying and don’t give up. Don’t just hope for one. Make it happen. Command yourself to have one. And practice, practice, practice.
And if you realize you are dreaming WHILE you are dreaming, you become lucid, and you then have control over your dream. Imagine the things you could do on a uni in your dreams! It can happen!
Hi Noodle, Great to be with us. I agree with Andrew Carter, I’m dreaming of unicycling in my head. And Yes we are a great group of people. I been riding since 1985 and Loving it. Hey Andrew, aren’t we nice bunch of People or what.

Oop’s, I did it again.
Yes, this is called lucid dreaming. I have done it once, and it was at a soccer game. I was doing saves that involved flips. it was crazy. It is possible, but you really have to try, and its pretty difficult.
It has been said that lucid dreaming is a stepping stone to astral projection. It has also been said that distance and time do not exist on the astral plane. Unicycling on mars? Maybe in the girls’ locker room?
Congratulations on your riding sucesses, your doing great. And you’ve found the best website and bunch of people to help you develope your skills with. I’m glad another one of those regular people was converted into a unicyclists. Unicyclists seem to be a lot better, is it just me who thinks that or is that a common thought.
Before I learned, and before I even got one, Ihad quite a few unicycling dreams. Infact, I remember one of them I such detail, I can describe the unicycle I was riding in my back yard! It was chrome with a busted yellow seat.
Finally, the best thing about dream cycling is that there is no saddle soreness!
I’ve had Two unicycle dreams in the last three days. I’ve seen the future, you must all obey what I say. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.
