What a great trip! I want to do that next year… Ski trip/MUni Moab ride is a good mainland combo. I hit the snowstorms perfect in Park City and Alta. FResh powder. But the experience in Moab was unparalleled… Uni-riders are in good shape… The cardio-workout on a unicycle is unparalleled.
All those riders, 160+. I never met any off rode uni riders until now…1 out of 5 unicycles were homemade. Lots of kids were there and they all rip.
With all the water sports I do in Hawaii, riding Muni is unparalleled cross training fun.
Hey,I met you!Hows it going?
Im the one from montana, that talked to you on friday in the slick rock parking lot.
Hi.
Hey, nice photo…that photog must have known what he was doing.
It was great you could make the journey from HI, and it was a lot of fun riding with you and being “Partners in Pain” out on the Slickrock Loop. Definitely one of the more grueling but fun rides of my life. Wish I could have also joined you for the Alta powder. It’s been a couple years since I’ve been there, and I miss the steep 'n deep, as well as the cold beers in the sun on the patio of Watson Shelter.
On that 1 in 5 ratio of homemade munis, it’s actually a good indication of how well the sport has progressed. Rolf would know better, but I think at the first couple of Moab fests, the ratio of homemades would have been much higher. No KH, Torker, Hunter brands. Somewhere there is a thread with pics of the famed Joe Stoltzfus wooden muni frames from the early days.
I’m just glad for the availability of good store-bought stuff, or I probably wouldn’t be riding. I shouldn’t built stuff, my doctor has said.
Hope to see you next year. Maybe instead of starting the event at the Moab campsite, some of us can plan to start it a day earlier at the top of the Snowbird Tram…the better to really get in the full contrast of Utah outdoor sports and terrain.
