When I ride in my neighborhood people always say to me (Hey sunny your pretty good at that on wheel bicycle) and i’m like it’s a unicycle. It gets very annoying.
So have you ever been asked this?
Sure, all of us have at one point or another. The question is how do you respond? The way yours is phrased (ignoring the spelling), an appropriate response would be “Unicycle. Thank you.” The person is giving you a compliment. You can’t force everyone in the world to learn the word unicycle if they hardly ever see one. This person is not taking a wild guess at a wrong word, so they’re not even saying anything wrong. “Unicycle” to offer them the word they may have been looking for, and “Thank you” in return for the compliment.
The silly questions are usually more fun. There have been numerous threads on that though. Search on “comebacks” or “where’s your other wheel”.
Yup i get the “One wheeled Bike” comment all the time…Its contradictory thought…because there cant be a “one wheeled bike” because the"BI" in bike implies 2.
another unicycle tshirt idea…
“What part of the prefix ‘UNI’ do you not understand?”
…Forrest, that is awesome…like no joke, I would totally wear that shirt
brilliant! get them printed and i’d buy one
Equally annoying is people who love obscure hobbies that become disgruntled when everyone doesn’t understand them.
Yes, exactly.
Depending on the person addressing me and the attitude they are displaying I often use the inconsistent phrase “two wheeled tricycle” in my response.
Unicycle itself is pretty inconsistent as it uses a Greek root and Latin prefix. Monocycle or unirad would both be more consistent.
same here.
make it.
NOW.
well if there on a bike, its an obvious response:
point and say" holy crap…a two wheeled unicycle" then if youv got time, the"i tryed one of them once and fell/hurt my balls/it was hard/etc…"
i think this is the most common thing that I get
that is so funny Im so going to use it
i thought about it to and yes i have beemn asked that
someone on these forums once talked about a couple college guys who were watching him, and said, ‘look at that one wheel bicycle!’ and the other guy said, ‘dude, its not a bicycle, its a…tricycle.’
yeah, i’ve been asked that before. also, sometimes people can’t think of the word so they’re like, “hey! look at that person riding a wheel!”
still, there was a lady i was talking to yesterday who was visiting from pakistan and she’s like, “wow, you’re good on one wheeled … bike … er, unicycle?” i was amazed that she knew the word.
I’ve got it worse!I got my (first and only) unicycle for my birthday. When I told my best friend at school, she was like, “Unicycle? What’s that?” and that school system uses these little textbook/workbooks that have a unicycle in the cover!(also note in the picture that the woman thinking about it was the happiest)It’s copyrighted, but you can visit their website and see.Not very much, but you can tell there’s a unicycle, bike, and tricycle.Around the bottom it says “cycle” and with each picture there’s the prefix that comes with it(tri for tricycle, bi for bicycle and the ever-popular…well, for this website, uni for…do I need to finish?)You’d think a person with a school book with a unicycle on the cover would recgonize it!She was twelve at the time, and still calls riding a unicycle playing unicycle…a little weird, actually.
