Has anyone here designed a php website?

Just wondering how long it will take to learn. Especially for someone whose internet capabilities include sending e-mail and posting in a forum? Anyone who is designing php websites looking for some practice, or willing to help an internet idiot out? Anyone need to start a portfolio or just bored. This is for a club that I am starting, and need something started and available soon to promote a fund raising effort I am involved in. If you are interested let me know. Thanks.

Or if you know of a interactive how to on setting something like this up. I mean really interactive like do this, now do this, now do this. Your done!

Send my bud Pete (petit_pierre) a pm. He started doing PHP a year or so ago and is totally into interactive sites. He spends all his time with his nose in some programming book or another.

He made www.unicyclepics.co.uk and has just made www.maggotys.co.uk which is for the circus skills club we run.

I know there’s a PHP forum he posts on for hints and help but and I’m sure he’d be able to recommend some books.

I think I used a walk-through tutorial at devshed.com when I first looked at php, but I already had programming experience.

It sounds like what you want is to learn how to install and configure prewritten scripts. You can find some scripts at http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/ and other directory sites.

I’m relatively new to PHP too and I have website project that I’m working on when I have the time.
I started here.

hey, i’m getting pretty good at the PHP/mysql combo.

I mean apart from the extensive experience i’ve had at setting up phpbb/invision style forums and mambo/joomla/CMSMS (and other cms type sites), i’ve also designed a php/mysql documentation manager with full logins to share PDF documents with original .sxw (wasn’t .odt at the time) files. THis was used (and still is i believe) at my dads work.

anyways if u want some help or just a chat, send me an email brendan <at> fridu <dot> co <dot> uk (actually www.fridu.org was put in by me (texts wre my uncle though hence bad english LOL))

Thanks everyone for your generous replies. I am going to look at the info all of you have provided and try to decide if I have enough time to figure this out, or need to get someone involved. I am still open to the possibility of help on this. If it was as easy as posting in a forum, I would be in good shape.

I admit I know very little about webdesign, but I believe that The Uninam site is PhP based (don’t quote me on that though). It should be quite good for the Vietnam unitour as each rider will be able to add their own photos and blog, although we’re still working a few bugs out of the site. It might be useful for a uni club too with a few modifications.

The programmer is at the bottom of the site, his name is Josh.

Hey Ken, Your site looks great. Josh did a real good job. Someone has agreed to help me out. So unless things change, which I am not expecting, I should be set.
