Happy Winter Solstice!!

One day late…but still.
Happy Winter Solstice!
Days are gonna start getting longer now, and I’m SO HAPPY for it (: !
Winter is dead, long live spring and summer!

Yesterday was a darker day.

Today, at the 47th parallel, will be 8h 23m, tomorrow 8 seconds longer.

Bring on the light.

Yay for light!

Shine spring shine!!

do you guys have snow? We usually have like at least 50 cm of snow at that time of the year… But we have nothing like absolutely nothing… It will be my first Christmas without snow

Edit: nvm I just saw the other thread… sorry

Hooray for sunlight! I’m sick of cold weather! We’re going to a winter solstice party at my Grandma’s house tomorrow, should be fun.

Haha, I didn’t know people celebrated winter solstice…

It was at least 65 degrees yesterday.

Woo for winter.

I think all the snow is in Denver.

I am very much looking forward to longer days.

Actually, quite a few people do.

James,

The Winter Solstice has been one of 4 major holidays in Pagan or Nature Religions. It’s the LONGEST NIGHT of DARKNESS, when all plants have died.

Like the Pagans, why not light a candle each night for 8 nights leading up to this darkest night, and celebrate with a festival of lights!!

Or take the one magical plant that stays green all winter long, an evergreen tree (wow! magical!). Bring that tree into your hut and put candles or other LIGHTS on it, to make sure the sun and green earth return fully!

For the vernal equinox, when the sun kisses the earth and you want to assure that mating results in a huge crop, do some fertility rituals involving the most fertile animal around–a bunny–and add some eggs! Even dye them fun colors, to appease the gods, and make sure all the seeds and eggs are FERTILE.

time to buy some sunglasses :sunglasses:

…or an umbrella.

And Happy Summer Solstice from those of us at UNICON XV

When someone mentioned it was the winter solstice I knew it would be a long night.

so you are NOT an atheist after all!

funny how season perception diverge: I hate spring and am not fond of summer.
Preferred seasons are autumn and winter. no gothic/pessimistic reason here: I find those seasons exhilarating!
May be this is an inherited trait from ancestors who went mammoth hunting ?
my Muni riding is twice better in the snow or through bad weather.
somebody else with the same feelings?

Possible, while your ancestors where hunting Mammoth (BTW, are you sure they were not hunting marmottes), mine were sun bathing, drinking piña coladas around the swimming pool.

It’s because of the lack of witnesses (due to horrible weather conditions). I also ride like God when nobody’s here to watch me;).
Hope we’ll meet again soon, bye MOU;)

Amazing, today’s stats are exactly the same as those posted three years ago!

in the family cave there are only pictures of mammoths and woolly rhinos
the only acceptable states for water are ice or boiling hot (for tea!)
