Happy Thanksgiving!

I know most people on this forum don’t celebrate American Thanksgiving, but for my family it’s a big deal. Got up at 6:30 this morning to help my grandma make some fresh stuffing and shove it up two turkeys’ butts. Gotta love this day!

Anyone else make a big deal out of it like us?

I love stuffing… Mmmm…

Well, im being the opposite of you. I have stayed up to 6:30am and I am going to bed soon. Will be waking up in an hour or two to shower up, and Head 2hrs west to Moses Lake, to stay with my grandparents and aunt. Gonna have a big dinner then sit around and probably not do much after that. They have a trampoline, so maybe I should bring my uni and try jumping on it. haha.

We have a little tradition, that we go around the table and each person says something they are thankful for.

Sounds fun, Jer! I like that you all say what you’re thankful for. It’s kind of a dying tradition that I really like, we do it too.

Mmmm, bird’s been in the oven for only 50 minutes, the house already smells like thanksgiving. I love the holiday season, it only goes uphill from here to Christmas. :)

Thanksgiving, with all the usual caveats, is a wonderful holiday in our home. Tofurky, veggies, bean casserole, stuffing, and lots of good feelings. My kid just got done making vegan cupcakes which, believe it or not, are extremely delicious and a staple at all our celebrations.

Cheers all!

You might say its a big thing in our household. We had the best roast turkey I ever remember having as well as mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potato recife, bread stuffing, corn bread stuffing, home made rolls, corn, with pumpkin pie to finish things off.
So, yeah, big deal…

(I’m stuffed!)

Forgive me for sounding ignorant but what is thanks giving?

ERmy.

I think it’s a good idea to give thanks for what you have but I can’t help but think of the holiday as a celebration of the subjugation of Native Americans…
But I listened to Alice’s Restaurant and then watched the movie.

Ah I see! I don’t like that google searching thing… its patronising lol.

We’re not celebrating the subjugation of Native Americans, we’re celebrating the coming together of family that’s not usually in the same household and all eating heartily, as well as watching a bunch of football.

Watching the Cowboy’s dominate right now, then the Aggies later on with some dessert.

Wow, so few posts! Everybody must still be eating turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving! The last of the relatives just left. Now we still have half a huge turkey to eat and a bunch of pies to finish.

Do you know that some strict Orthodox Jews do not celebrate Thanksgiving? My friend doesn’t celebrate. Thanksgiving has its roots as a Christian holiday, as proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln:

Clearly, a Gentile such as Lincoln does not have the authority to create a Jewish holiday. At best, even if Lincoln meant to include the Jewish God, the holiday is unavoidably a Gentile holiday based on the “Christian” calendar – which is two strikes against it in the eyes of a conservative Orthodox Jew.

Here is a Jewish perspective on the holiday.

Anyway, to whom it applies – Happy Thanksgiving!

We had turkey, stuffing, cheese souflee, mashed potatoes, bacon-wrapped green bean bundles, rolls, sweet potato creme brulee, chocolate cheescake, pumpkin pie and apple pie.

I’m stuffed now.

Doesn’t it massively take the edge off Christmas? I mean getting the family round and eating a turkey is fun once a year but I wouldnt be terribly keen if you suggested it again less than a month later.

It’s because America is fat.

I dunno about everyone else, but I’ve never had turkey for Christmas. Normally it’s ham, or some nice cut of beef.

You kidding? If society allowed it, I’d do this every week. I love being with all my family.

Today is my Thanksgiving Day. I hope Abe doesn’t mind too much. My daughter had to work on the real turkey day so Karen and Zach and I went to see Slum Dog Millionaire and then had spaghetti. Today Sarah and Zach will both come over to pig out. I started hickory smoking our 10kg dead bird in the Weber at about 7:30 and will pull it off between noon and 1:00PM. Buster spent the night with Zach last night for some reason I can’t understand. I suppose he’ll be dropping by, too. I don’t know why Karen decided we had to get a turkey so big I had to haul it home in the back of my pickup. We should have enough leftovers for all of Paraguay.

Happy Thanksgiving, Greg. You’re not the only one eating turkey today.

That is correct, but how many arrogant, over-confident people who incorrectly predicted football outcomes are eating crow today?

Hey, I accurately predicted my 'Boys victory.

Nope. I try to have as many family get togethers and as I can. Most of my family is a short 2-6 hour drive away, so I love coming down here for the weekend or something.

And id like to point out, eating Turkey shouldnt be a once a year type of thing. My mom usually is the type to buy a turkey, and elt it sit for months until the next holiday before eating it. Now whenever that happens, we just cook that and have a ncie dinner every few weeks, or months, and then jsut go out and buy another turkey for the holidays.
