Yes, record snowfall for this part of Colorado. Still enjoying it to; actually my favorite season is here, CORN. I-Pass opens in 3-4 weeks, it will be incredible, chutes that have not been skiied in years should be great, as well as access into and out of them, Tele-ho…
I just replied to another post about High Country riding, (Monarch Crest) in early July, and I said there and will here also, that I seriously think that some of the high passes this summer will NEVER open up, there is some deep snow up there. The trip over to CB will be closed for a good part of the summer, early July right now as it looks, IMHO I think will not be rideable. Bring snowshoes and add to the adventure. Mud season will linger this year as well, so don’t ride to early. I’ll let you know as time moves on, also check with the LBS in both Aspen and CB.
Glad you enjoy the photo’s as well, and your right, immerse yourself in beauty daily, and the pics are bound to come out good.
I have some great climbs/rides planned for this summer for sure, and I hope to repeat that epic ride as one of them; it is just to classic not to ride it. We will see how that work/play balance works out. Peace
Nothing like skiing a line that only appears in the biggest snow years. I had one year like that out in Alta, (over 800 inch snowfall total that year) where we skied lines between our favorite chutes that never had even occurred to us. Small forests turned into open bowls, and the corn that spring was amazing. Skiing a long, steep corn run is as close to a godlike feeling as anything I’ve done.
Mike, please post some your tele exploits here, so I can have a vicarious thrill or two!
800" OMG
u got it, it will make u want to be out west, again
CORN=GODLIKE u have experianced it, i can tell
Yeah, Alta is usually phat, but that year the base broke 200". It was just ridiculous. New lines were everywhere.
Only a couple hundred times. My favorite was a mtn across the road from Alta/Snowbird, the one in all the resort pics, called Mt. Superior. First a long, crazy knife-edge hike to the top (r. hand skyline) , then a corn run of 40+ degrees for a little while, funnel through the cliffs, then steady 35 degree for a straight, perfect run of 3000 vert.
