Big Bennie turns the long-awaited 16 years old today (no, never been kissed). We opened gifts this morning before work so Ben now has his 1Gb flash card (PNY) that he’s wanted for some time. The other significant gift was from his 98-year-old great grandma. Nana Esther used to work in the Elgin Watch Factory in Elgin, IL when she was a teen. As Ben is her oldest grandchild, she presented him with a pocket watch from the Elgin Watch Factory that was originally owned by her great grandfather in 1910. The watch still works and is in pristine condition. It’s an amazing gift.
Ben has soccer practice tomorrow in DeKalb, IL, which is also the location of the nearest Dept. of Motor Vehicles office. So Mom and Ben will be making a stop at the DMV before practice tomorrow to get his driver’s license. We’ve also been working frantically on his Jeep. We put in new brake lines last night, new rear brake springs, and the clutch. Now all we have to do is get the engine put back in. Hopefully within a week or two, the old man will be sporting himself around in his very own Jeep.
