Im sure this thread was made before, but who cares.
Ive been playing for 5 years, or almost 5 years now. All self-taught, didnt even use books. So all I can do is read tabs, but I never do that anymore, cause if I want to learn something, I listen to it, and about 98% of the time I will be playing along within a few seconds, or soloing along to the track. Playing by ear is a great skill to work at.
Lets see, my first guitar was a peavey. Plays really nice and feels* awesome. I scalloped the neck and still play it to this day.
Second guitar was a Fender Squire. Plays really well too, and I still play that one. I messed up the electronics in it, so the pickup selector messes up and gives an annoying buzz, but thats not bad, cause you just have to fiddle with it a bit to get it to sound good. lol
Third guitar is a Gibson Epiphone Classic II, Les Paul style body. Great feel to it. Strap fell off it once and I snapped the fretboard off the neck. Its sitting in my closet.
Forth is a acoustic/electric Eleca guitar I got. Surprisingly good feel and sustain. Its a really nice blue color too.
Forgot if I got this 5th or not, but I got a 1976 Hoffner 12-string acoustic. Neck is a bit warped, and even after adjusting the trust rod, I have very high action after the 12th fret. That doesnt bother me too much, cause I dont use it for a lot of soloing and stuff, and most of the chords I use dont need to go past the 12th fret.
Last guitar is another Gibson Epiphone, but a flying V. I play this one the most. =p
Amps, I only have three. Started out with a 30w Gorilla amp. It was loud and nice for a practice amp, even used it for band practice for my first band, and it was able to compete with the drums and bass.
Ended up getting a mini-stack from Peavey and I still have that in my room and use that instead of the Gorilla for my practice/room amp. Its around 100w. Its pretty old too.
My last amp I got a few months ago, if that, is a Behringer half-stack. Around 250w, lots of presets on it that I really dont use, but are fun to have, and works really well for the shows ive played. Coffee shops, bars, and some other larger places. It easily filled the rooms and the volumes been at 2. No micing the cabinets either. lol
For me, playing guitar > unicycling. I can see myself not being able to uni at somet point (not saying I want that) but I cant ever see myself not playing a guitar.
Im typing a lot right now… lol
Did this (Van Halen) two years ago, and this(FF&).
Some heavier stuff.
