Guilty of Hoarding

Along with petrochemicals, it was anticipated that the closing of major coastal ports would lead to shortages of some imports- sutch as bananas.

Naturally, I’m a big consumer of bananas, and, imagining a world without cheep bananas, panicked. Typically I might have 3 lbs. of plantains/baking bananas on hand, as well as 2 lbs. of fresh and frozen bananas. Currently, there is close to 6 lbs. of frozen bananas and 4 lbs. of fresh on hand, as well as 1 paultry plantain. Still, I feel understocked, and consider filling the remainder of the freezer.

Does this make me a bad monkey?

I’m also considering stocking up on a 6 month supply of Clif bars and whey protein.

How is this different than anyone else that keeps supplies on hand in case of emergency? Is there anything distastefull or different about sutch “battlefield conversions”? Is it wrong to become an ant when things get bad, when you’ve been a grasshopper while the sun is shining?

I’m addicted to Clif Bars, I eat them every day. At the least, I have 5 of them in the house.

Bananas are good too, you should buy more.

Now I’m gonna go eat a banana.

You must be the reason the price of bananas has gone way up.

Let’s don’t start hoarding stuff again. Years ago, in the midst of national shortages and hoarding in the USA, Johnny Carson created another shortage by announcing one evening in his comedy monologue that he had heard there was a shortage of toilet paper. Next day there really was a shortage because people went to the stores and bought all they could carry.

I looove banana’s, they’re my favorite fruit. They’re going extinct, did you know? well, kind of…the main banana, the Cavendish type, could go extinct in about ten years because of a fungus that’s destroying it. But there are other types of banana’s around, so it’s all good. SNOPES has some stuff about it.

Re: Guilty of Hoarding

The difference is timing. But there are more differences. Unlike gasoline or other fuels, bananas are perishable so the rules must be different (even if you freeze them). Also, I can’t think of how anyone could be too put out if they were unable to purchase bananas for a while. Being out of fuel when you’re trying to rescue people from New Orleans or deliveer supplies there, that’s anohther story.

So be a happy monkey.

I need my bananas FRESH only. Nothing else will do.

What kind of a monkey ARE you??!

Billy

I like really ripe ones…the browner, the better. well, not entirely. if it’s completely brown, that’s not good. if it’s like half brown, and you sometimes need to eat it with a fork, that’s reeaally good.

My mom always called those brown spots “sugar spots” to get us to eat them. They are sweeter than the all yellow bananas. I’m prolly just a bit to the right of you on this one, because needing to use a fork is a bit much for me.
