For Heyes, his attempt to re-engage with life began with a unicycle ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End in 1998 in an attempt to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness.

I have to say that I’m not sure that unicycling 1000 miles would help break down the stigma. When I tell people I ride just 8 miles to work each day they ask if I’m mad. If anything, a 1000 mile ride would emphasise the fact.

So would riding in a 24 hr. mtb race:p

But really, the more exposure there is like this the more unicycling seems like a normal sport. IMO.
