That’s right, the big guy from up North, Mr Sas himself is going to be LIVE, yes LIVE in Tennessee this weekend!
On Saturday, December 10th, we’ll be heading to Raccoon Mountain, TVA’s pride and joy, to ride the SORBA designed trails including Lower Chunky, Small Intestine, and Megawatt.
Wish I could join you and Saskat at Racoon Mtn. I know he was here in Utah after Turkey Day, but I was swamped with work & advocacy stuff, so I couldn’t join him down South in Moab. BTW, Winter showed up right after y’all headed back to TN. Not much more in the way of snow, but right nippy temps.
Tell Erik to take Munimag up on his offer to ride in Maryland. Shaeffer Farm was/is nice.
He’s upstairs crashed out, we’ replanning on doing a local ride today, show him a little Southern style culture tonight, then head South for a Raccoon Mountain seesion.
Sorry you can’t be there Bert, it’s gonna be a hoot!
Wish I could. I haven’t ridden proper MUni since my ill fated ride in Moab back in July. While I’m finally back to running I haven’t dared ride any serious single track as yet, possibly in the next couple of weeks. Even if I was ready to ride long distance single track, I’ve got volunteer responsibilities tomorrow at our local Rocket City Marathon that I can’t get out of.
Don’t be spoiling him with any nice weather & cute southern girls. He has snow, ice, high wind chills did I mention ice & local eskimo girls to attentd too back home, & we’re counting on him to keep holding up that end of the deal.
Have fun guys, and have a bourbon for me while your at it.
Wow Ben, that would be lots of fun. I am just 2 hours from you, but have a trip to Nashville planned with my wife this weekend (Titans football and the Rockettes dance thingy).
Come on you guys, it’ll be awesome, who’d rather volunteer and watch football when you could be riding Raccoon Mountain with the man from snowy river? Okay, how about the snoypwy frigid northlands
Hey plinker, send me a pm, it’d be cool to meet somone local for a ride.
Looks like you guys had a fun time. I love riding that trail system. May head that way in a couple weeks or so when I’m off for the holidays; there or Oak Mountain (another equally awesome place to ride). Had way too busy a weekend to be able to slip away and ride. My job, along with my wife, is to “sweep” the Rocket City Marathon, that is, “run” the marathon at a 6 hour pace to keep the police, traffic control, aid stations etc… honest and to give the runners the full allotted time to finish. It’s an important job and one I could get away from. We actually had a great time!
Well, that’s kinda where I’m headed, but having done that sort of organizing more than a few times in the past, I know that I need more support and name recognition in order to attract a crtical mass.
The Asheville Munifest is the only local uni event and I know they work very hard to get attendence numbers that make it worth doing.
The biggest problem is that we don’t have a core group of riders in this area, unlike the Asheville group.
So we have a perfect venue, but building the field of dreams is not going to be enough, we need participation.
Sounds like we need the folks out of Atlanta (ahem: Unicycle.com) to perhaps put on a MUniFest? They have the name recognition, the resources, the trail systems…
The earlier in June the better. You’d probably want to avoid the June 15-17 weekend anyhow as that’s the Chattanooga Stage Race which I’m probably going to do as a last build up for my race in Hungary, the Ultrabalaton 212k which is June 30th. However, one other thing to consider is that the June 2 & 3 weekend at Oak Mountain, AL is the Bump N’ Grind Weekend. This trail system is on par or better IMHO than Raccoon Mountain; many more trail miles at least and lot’s of route options for all skill levels. Could coordinate a MUniFest there in conjunction with the actual Bump N’ Grind events. I know the RD there and he’s totally game to get more MUni traffic at the event; he even created a MUni category for the 2011 event and if we show enough interest I believe he’d add more categories in the event for different ability levels. Regardless, I’ll probably be doing the Bump N’ Grind event again as I had an awesome time there and I love the Oak Mountain trail system. Not all that further down the road and we’d be able to show off our skills among a ton of 2 wheelers. Just my 2 cents. If you had the Chattanooga MUnifest on the following weekend I’d still attend.
