Greg's Carkeek Park ride in Seattle

I went on a trail ride with my wife, Karen, and Buster, the goofiest looking dog on earth. This is in Carkeek Park in Seattle, about a ten minute MUni ride from my house. The trail is very developed in most places but very steep in some. The skinnies along the side were too wet and slippery to try today. The SH MUni got pretty muddy today but it’s all aluminum and stainless so I just hose it off when I’m done and forget it.

The photos are primarily for the local boys to look at to see if they want to go for a ride in this park. It’s a pretty place with lots of trails, railroad tie stairs, off trail logs, and access to the beach.

4 out of 5 little girls servayed at my house prefered those pics to watching David Hassleholf strutting around in a thong; Lewis was the only voice of decent- he has yet to explain himself.

This part looks like some fun

Hey, is that an off leash area? Where’s your leash?

Looks like fun, Andrea and I would be game for a tour on a dryer day.

Do Karen and Buster always dress in yellow?

Buster always dresses in yellow and he always views Carkeek Park as an off-leash area. Animal Control disagrees with him but he’s tough to catch. Karen has a firm grip on my leash and it’s out of the frames of the pictures here.

Lewis still thinks that I starred in “Bay Watch.” Please don’t stomp on his fantasies. Did Sophie like her tree frogs?

That looks like a fine place to muni. It doesn’t have to be Tiger Mountain for me to have fun. Is there a coffee shop near the trail? Post ride coffee is almost as good as post ride beer.

I make outstanding coffee at home. There are six excellent restaurants within MUning distance of the trailhead. There are also two taverns with imports and microbrews. And, if that were not enough, nude male dancers right up the street.

Great pictures - Buster is one handsome animal!

I live in this neighborhood and took a spin down Piper’s creek trail yesterday. I happened to notice that all but one trail is marked with signs that say bicycles are not allowed. Turns out that most trails in Seattle are not open to bikes unless they are at least 60 inches wide. This policy was drafted in 1995 when mountain bikes started becoming popular.

Here’s Seattle Parks Dept. definition of a bicycle.

I’d say that includes unicycles.

Even though most of the trails are off limits Piper’s Creek is still a fun little ride to get away from traffic. Just got to watch out for joggers and dog walkers.

I live just north of Carkeek and every time I see the no bike signs I get a little sad. I don’t want to anger the friends of Carkeek people so I have only ridden on the wide path behind the QFC down into the park. That wasn’t a very good idea as I hadn’t been on the whole trail before and I was on my 36er. I was coming home from a long for me road ride and thought I would cut through the park. I knew it was steep but I didn’t know about the tight switchbacks. Some gnarly pedal strikes and a brushed butt were the result. It would have been fun on a muni but the rest of that trail would be too tame. I wish I had muni close enough that I didn’t have to drive to it.

Yes it’s tame but very pleasant. I recently started riding my 24" muni so it’s helps me build my confidence. This evening I rode all the way down there. The side streets past 85th were kind of tough to ride, terrible camber. I wanted to avoid the traffic on 8th. I’m thrilled to add another destination my list of local routes.

I only know about the trail because my husband started helping out at the orchard and rides his bike there when they meet up.
