graceful dismounts

there’s lots of interesting mounts, but what are the interesting ways to DISMOUNT a unicycle? you know, something that would be a nice finish to a routine?

a couple that i remember seeing (but not doing) are:

a) spinning dismount – spin in ever tighter circles until you go off… (i don’t know if this counts as ‘graceful’)

b) side dismount – similar to side mount but in reverse order. (one can extend this so that the unicycle is gently let down until it rests on the floor)

got more ideas?

BMW 3 (British Muni Weekend) will be held on 14th, 15th 16th September in
the Forest of Dean near Coleford (foot-and-mouth-permitting still).

Contact leo.white@cableinet.co.uk for more details as and when available.

Remember that details of all the UK unicycle events can be found at:

Grr. The Saturday clashes with Aimee’s birthday (and a road-opening
ceremony that I’m kind of booked for - don’t ask).

Anyways, I guess it’s close enough to get to for some of it - shame to
miss the main day, though. :frowning:

All except BMW3.

One I manage quite often (an unintentional dismount) is to do a
standstill, reach down (with bum firmly planted on the seat) and grab the
tyre with my free hand. I then lift my feet off the pedals and kick them
out to the sides. The intended aim of this is to then put my feet back on
the pedals and ride off but when that doesn’t happen my legs are sticking
out and I tilt backwards (pivoting on the wheel) until I land on my feet.
On the way back you can extend your legs some. Not sure what this looks
like to a spectator and if it would class as graceful…

Sometimes I finish a performance by riding toward the audience, popping
the seat out in front as I stop, and jumping up off the unicycle while
lifting it up in the air in front of me with a little rotation to the
right. I let go of it as it comes up in front of me and turns to fact
to my right. Then I catch the wheel from the top, to the left of the
fork, letting the fork spin around underneath the wheel and back to the
top. Then I let go of the wheel and put my right hand palm-up, to catch
the frame at roughly the unicycle’s center of mass to bring it to a
quick stop.

Or, instead of stopping it I catch it a little higher, so the unicycle
then spins the other way around, under the wheel again, and I catch it
again when it’s horizontal, usually dropping to one knee as this happens.

So that’s one possibility…
