got the 20" ... practice going good

I haven’t given up peeps. it’s been since late november since i practiced, but, i was authentically really sincerely not getting anywhere with my practice on my 24" torker. i ordered a 20" wheelset for it and got it in the mail yesterday. sad that i paid 100 for my lx 24, and had to shell out 73 for this cx wheel-only. but it’s well worth it. in just one practice session on it, i can tell two things: my previous practice has not been a waste, AND i now HAVE the feel for it. i no longer feel out of control, struggling to gain control. Rather i feel in control, struggling to maintain said control. It’s better. I can circle the tennis court with maybe 2 upds, with the help of the surrounding fence every 5-10 meters. not bad considering i couldnt even go 1 gddmn rev on my 24. and that was my first session on it. i mean i hopped on it and BAM that’s what i could do. it’s night and day. and i can still put the cranks off the 24 on the 20 if i feel like it woohoo.

in the meantime, i’ll be hitting the gym whenever i don’t feel like going to the park to uni - or when it’s too cold. I need to get fit. I need to uni.

Excellent news - glad you are “feeling it” with the 20"!

I was just thinking about you a few days ago. I was afraid you may have thrown in the towel! Good to hear you are still at it and making headway with the new setup. Keep us posted.

cool beans man. it’s nice to know someone cares. And no… i wont be
throwing in the towel. Winter just hit really quick-like, and i don’t
do so well with the cold. but i’ve been getting used to the weather
and my desire for the uni has been growing… so i figured i’d try and
get out to the park on the one or two nicer days of the week.

I got the uni over 2 years ago for my birthday. tried… failed…
gave up. when i came back to this newsgroup in september, that was my
real first attempt. and i need to. treadmills are boring. jogging
is boring. ellipticals are annoying. bikes are big and bulky, but
otherwise my favorite (if a bit less effective) form of exercise. the
uni ? better exercise, no bulk. plus, i’m a total nerd.

It’s kinda funny how unicycling has gotten me to do stuff I would normally not do. It is about the only exercise I get and it is definitely the only exercise I enjoy. It has gotten me up early in the mornings during the summer to avoid the heat while normally I am not a morning person. It has also gotten me out in the cold when I would normally rather be inside. At least with the cold you have the opportunity to dress warmly. My wardrobe has definitely improved for handling cold weather since I started unicycling.

Glad to hear the 20" helped so much. That is interesting that it made such a difference. Keep at it, sounds like you are doing great!

I figure once i’m good to go and i’m at level 1… outdoors will be no prob… but learning it… a touch different. i’ll have no problem going from point a to point b on the uni once that’s all i have to worry about, but concentrating and learning while freezing my nuts off is another story, lol.
