Mikhail Gorbachev recently posed in a Louis Vuitton add.
I personally agreed with Lenin and Trotsky very much (not to much Stalin) and i wish the US wouldn’t be so goddamn capitalist. (just watched a special on nightline about people who buy peoples debt over phone and e-mail and then make them pay a HIGHER interest on the same loan, just the payments are less frequent) This world just needs the haves to look out for the have nots (and nationalized health care would be nice too ;))
Interesting. Which parts of Lenin’s and Trotsky’s political philosophies do you particularly agree with, and why? Did you not agree “too much” with Stalin because he was a mass-murdering tyrant, or do you have more subtle reasons?
The US is too goddam capitalist? When you exchange emails with your many contacts in the former Soviet Union on the PCs they all have in their bedrooms, what do they tell you about the unicycles they can all afford?
As for Gorby, he spent many years riding a tiger and made the world a better and safer place. He is one of the great unsung heroes of the 20th century, who deserves to be right up there with Churchill and Mandela. I don’t resent him making a bit of money from advertising inessential fashion items in his dotage.
if that person is able to run a decently fair system in almost all aspects then, yes. If people would just all behave and act responsibly there would be no need for this, but until that happens there is.
I know that is wishful thinking :(. Another thing that bugs me in the US is how the majority of Reps. and Senators are rich white men, while the majority of the country is NOT rich white men. Of all the presidents “projects” if you will i think that LBJ’s great society was probably the closest that the US will come to a socialism.
You’re overestimating the ability of one person or small group to know what is best for everyone else. I don’t think any single person would know how to run a perfect utopian society. Nor do I think a small group could without power struggles. You are expecting everyone else to not try to reach toward the huge amount of power those few have to help benefit themselves at the expense of others.
The unfourtunate result of a two party system, where the choice is between fascism (Republicans) and socialism (Democrats). People attach themself to one of these parties mainly on if they prefer economic freedom (Republican) or social freedom (democrats) more, and they don’t realize that the common goal of each is to expand their power and advance statism, which is what happens. You can’t have social freedom without economic freedom.
Current laws make it hard for competition to enter, which means you either have to be rich to fund your own campaign, or you have to give into the platform of the two parties, unless times are bad and people wake up to allow a large movement to occur like what the American revolution was. I think that is happening now.
