google meta tags?

I don’t know how many of you watch the monthly google “dance,” but
today’s ongoing update is bizarre… many sites in some searches are
showing Meta tag descriptions now - and I thought Google always ignored
them??

Re: google meta tags?

gilby’s t-shirt site shows meta tags in google. I can’t remember why it does
that, but it has for a while.

At what time did the dance start?

Re: google meta tags?

Yeah, that’s typical for all sites in dmoz - but now it’s actually
showing some meta tag descriptions for other sites.

Re: google meta tags?

Sometime this morning - but it seems to have reversed and disappeared (a
first?). Perhap they didn’t like what was happening and decided to make
a few changes and start again.

Mentioning search engines, word is Yahoo is going to drop Google and
join up with All-the-web/FAST starting July 1. This could really suck
for those of us doing well in Yahoo right now.

Re: google meta tags?

It’s all over the search engine discussion boards… Supposedly the deal
is practically done.

The “normal” stuff. No worrying about links, pagerank, google bombing etc…

And about a year or so ago I read something from fast saying that cloaking
was OK if your not trying to “trick” the visitor. that may or may not be
true now.

These days I don’t even know what the “normal stuff” is… What are you
referring to?

I just checked the referer log from pege.org

39 from 21357 visitors this month from alltheweb.com

So one from 562 visitors coming from alltheweb.com

Is this average at other sites also ?

I watched Yahoo’s default search engine traffic from

Altavista
Infoseek
Inktomi
Google

Regardless what search engine was the default of Yahoo,
nearly the same traffic
