Good headphones for riding?

Hey,
So I have been riding with my ipod headphones and I like them a lot. They sound good and stay in my ears really well. A couple days ago one side decided to not work any more so I cut it off and now I have only one side.

What headphones do you guys like for riding? I need to get some new ones now…

I like the kind that go in your ear like the ipod ones…

I was about to post the same thing, because all my ear buds kept falling out and getting tangled up in between the spokes so they get ripped off. But then, my mp3 player broke, so I didn’t listnen to music while riding, except for history tapes for school. Then my seatpost broke so I don’t ride at all for now.
I haven’t had much luck with earbuds while riding, but the headphones that go around your ears with the bar at the back of the neck work(ed) good for me.

boo on the kind that go in your ear.

HURRAY THESE KIND.

They stay on really really well, and they are WAY more comfy.

I have the panasonic rp-hs43. I’m not sayin get that exact model, but that design in my not so humble opinion is the best.

im with chase, i have seen some with that design with an earbud attached to teh thing that goes around you ear, i think that those would be lighter and would stay on better than chases… but chases are definatly mucho comfortable

I’m a big fan of the style that unitik pointed out, however I find those can be a bit annoying. I have actualy yet to find the perfect pair of headphones. When just sitting on the bus or something I love big ones that completely cover my ears. I can just sit in my own little world.

I really dislike the earbud headphones as I find they are annoying in the ear.

for riding though I would recommend something that goes around the back of your neck, that way you can easily tuck away the cord so that it won’t ever get caught or in your face.

I picked up some pretty crappy headphones from best buy that have been working quite well. They were the cheapest ones in the store that weren’t ear buds and I bought the most expensive warranty for them, which means I can pretty much replace them tons of times if they break without worrying about them and they were cheap.

That’s a really good idea man… haha

Nice. So now the number of headphones matches the number of wheels. Was that on purpose?

Ha, ummm yeah. It might be a good thing because I will be able to hear cars coming now but they stop anyway;)

Jeff, I don’t think my helmet will fit over those.

There are headphones designed to be fit in BMX/skate style helmets. TSG makes one and Capix makes one. I know there are others. I have no idea about sound quality between them. I suspect that sound quality is not very good in any of them but the sound quality in the ear buds supplied with most MP3 players isn’t good either.

For headphone info one of my favorite sites is HeadRoom. They have links to some clip-on and street style headphones that might be appropriate.

My next headphones might be the new Grado iGrado. I just need to find a place where I can test them to see how they fit. They would be too big for using while riding, but that’s not what I’d use them for.

these are nice they are like the ones unitik pointed out but you dont have to bother moving your hair and getting the clip on right i had this stlye for a while like 10-20 dollars at walmart and good quality.
i have used both and like the around the neck more.

I think that if riding on the road, I should like be able, for safety’s sake, to hear the traffic, and if riding off road I should like to hear the sounds of nature.

I will never understand the need of so many kids to be permanently wired up to their music.

Near the start of the academic year, I throw out at least two students a week from lectures, who prefer to listen to some damn pop group, rather than to me. Why should I be expected to spoil their enjoyment.

I use the ones that have been previously posted, that wrap around the back of the neck. I usually only wear them whilst commuting to work on the mtb, as when I’m on the uni I prefer to listen to peoples gasps of amazement.
They’re handy as you can wear them with a helmet too.

Well maybe those will fit over your helmet. Did you think about that?

Seriously though I like the ear buds with the wrap around the ear thing. They are cheap and light and they stay in the ear nicely. Also they don’t mess with my Mohawk like so many headphones.

+1

I like to concentrate when riding, any music would be an annoyance. Unless I’m doing distance. But then, I have to watch out for traffic, so no music again.

I figure unicycling is leisure time. I don’t want to listen to dumb rednecks tell me to do 360s on my leisure time. I’d rather listen to music. I only wear headphones when I ride alone, otherwise I prefer to talk to the people I ride with. Also I turn them down enough that I won’t get hit by a car if that will be an issue. Regardless though I take it you don’t ride street so you don’t have as many people tell you to do tricks.

The only problem is when a girl I know yells something to me and I don’t respond cause my music’s on, but oh well.

I always listen to music whilst ridng, unless of course I am with someone.

I would never listen to music whilst in my lesson, and I tend not to whilst with people. I do think its kinda rude. But for unicycling it pumps me up to do bigger and better things.

i’d love to listen to music more… but the nighbours complain… :stuck_out_tongue: i open the windows and turn the volume up…

So i cant… and i’ve only go tin ear and they fall out, and my minidisc player falls out of my pockets so its a disaster… and i hate doing trials with a bag…

I myself like the sony h.ear stereo headphones… They are really light and you hardly even notice them there. I listen to music most of the time when I ride and I almost always ride alone. It gives me more patience and I am usually in front of my house in the street and its at the end of a cul de sac so I can always see cars coming and not many do.
I would rather listen than to be by myself for any amount of time in the middle of the street in silence. Music does give me more confidence and if it has a good beat then that influences my riding.
