Why couldn’t we just lock him away for life? Killing someone gets us nowhere. He was an evil person but we just lower ourselves to his horrid ways by killing him. We are just as evil as he was.

He drained the wetlands at the outlet of the Tigris and the Euphates Rivers generating one of THE WORST ecological disasters of our time. Not many folks know 'bout that. Also there used to be a whole culture of “swamp arabs” a unique people who lived of these historic wetlands. They have essentially vanished with the swamps.
Yes, I know about The People of the Reeds. Saddam was one of the worst people that ever lived. But tell me how killing him has done any good. It’s just added to the chaos in the world. I’m not saying we should have let him go. He should have been locked away but not killed.
personally, i think it would have been much worse punishment to force him to live in america! He hates us so much, lets make him live like us! lol picture a sitcom about that…“My neighbor is Hussein!” like, he goes to the grocery store to pick up some eggs and EVERYONE just stares disgustedly.
Saddam also set fire to all those oil fields in Kuwait, which must have been a pretty horrible ecological disaster. And used mustard gas on people in his own country. A mass-murderer and eco-rapist in the first-person.
An Iraqi court tried and sentenced him (not “us”). I question whether it would be better to keep him alive than to martyr him, but I’m not sorry to see him go. To loop back to the top of the thread, adios muchacho. Wouldn’t want to be ya. Capital punishment is alive and well, so you’d better be good… for goodness sake!

But was there any alternative for Saddam? Could the Americans and the Brits etc. ever hope to leave Iraq, whilst Saddam was alive, and in a position, however unlikely, from which he might have been resurrected back into power?
