Forget Big Macs, you need the vegtable curry index. How much does a take
away veg curry cost( with rice). This index can cope with veg chillies,
stir frys and noodles if appropriate to local conditions. It even takes
local ( rather than national) conditions into account. ( rice an3 being
about 2.5quid in bolton, but at least 3 down south(UK)) ( does the rest of
the world have rice an3? three kind curry with rice, nann bread extra)
1 VC+R will set you back about 4.5 ukp in Reading. So one basic uni costs
approx 16.6 VC+R or 75 ukp.
IIRC a veg stirfry +R in China cost very little, and so did the
unicycles.A McDs on the otherhand was much the same price as in the UK.

This could be diversified into a unicycle justification index or UJA for
short.
First go on a hard ride. Then go get a curry at your local takeaway (no
going to posh places cos that’s cheating). Divide the amount you spend on
food by the cost of your unicycle. The higher this is the more you can
justify your unicycle ownership as you must have used up all the energy
you’re replacing with curry by doing exercise on your uni and exercise is
good for you right?
Given that I spent 9 quid on two people worth of curries after a ride with
some mountain bikers on Saturday on a £150 unicycle I feel this ride had a
very good unicycle justification value of 0.06 or 6% of unicycle value eaten
after the ride!
Some of the bikers had some fun bikes, including one guy with a carbon fibre
beam freeride bike with a Rohloff 14 gear Speedhub geared hub on the back
which was very very pretty and very nice, none of the complicated derailleur
bits that bikes usually have and all the gears right next to each other on
one lever. Went down to a disused quarry which some people rode down,
absolutely insane very near vertical stuff, no way I was trying that,
fortunately I had the 700c with short cranks, which was a very good excuse
not to! Some lovely singletrack with big rollercoaster bomb hole bumps in
it, which I’m definately taking the 26" back to to play on.
I see that the folks in the UK are putting some serious thought into this important topic. Sarah’s use of an Asian food as a standard is both statistically and demographically appropriate. The extension to the UJA follows naturally from the choice of food standard. I would have to concur with John Childs in the previous thread that all of this talk about food is making my stomach growl. It’s early and I’m already suffering from premature hunger syndrome. I can’t wait to meet all of the newsgroup people at NAUCC and UNICON just to have an eating contest. Unfortunately, discussion of such lofty topics as these will be hindered by the muffling of voices that accompanies overstuffed mouths. Enthusiasm for a comment can be measured by the distance rice is sprayed by the audience.
