This might be hard to understand, but some boys have no one to teach them how to sew clothes for their dolls. Other boys join jsut cuz they want to MEET GRLZ!!
I have been watching the forums for a while now and after reading this thread I Decided to take the time to join.
I am a Boy Scout where I’m almost an Eagle Scout was a Cub Scout since I was like 5 and I wanted to set some things straight.
First you do need to earn Tenderfoot you have no rank when you first join.
Second a big chunk of the policy against gays is that if there was a gay in a troop and something happened the Boy Scouts would possibley get sued.
Third although most Boy Scouts are troops there are also Venturing Crews that allow Girls to join.
That’s hetero bullshit. They hate fags.
If they’re worried about fags getting beat up, teach scouts that scouts don’t value descrimination against minority groups, not keep fags out of scouts.
They’re a bunch of breeders. Not all of them, but they try to be.
That doesn’t even make sense, and is a poor excuse for what is pretty blatant homophobia. “Gay” is not a synonym for “pedophile.”
If that’s what they meant, it’s even more screwed up.
I was thinking that Crazy Bro meant, by “something happening”, along the lines of intimidation or harrasment but if it’s the old gay=child molester thingy again… that’s even stupider.
Yes it is a poor excuse, but the rule is made by the national council, and local councils have to follow their rules. But just because something is made a rule by national council does not mean that everyone thinks the same in fact, several local councils have signed nondiscrimatory statements. Personally I belive that they shoud be allowed.
If girl scouts do indeed fund abortions, I would say girl scouts for the win!
Though I doubt that’s true, in which case they are both annoying from what I’ve seen/heard of them.
Can I just point out one little thing for those people argueing about how it isn’t sexist.
You have BOY scouts and you have GIRL scouts. Obviously 'cause girls don’t hunt and guys don’t cook.
Yup, definitely not sexist in any way at all. Ever.
Boy and Girl Scouts in America were established in 1910 and 1912 respectfully. At that time girls were expected to become stay at home moms doing the cooking, sewing, laundary ect… but as time gone on women have become more active started working outside the home and are now go camping and other outdoor activites. To change an orgization to fit the new ideas takes a lot of time and work.
Or you can just effing change it.
It’s not that hard. Just say, girls get to hunt now and boys get to cook.
or you can’t in the mess that there is it takes years to properly update the merit badges so they apply to new technology. There is also the Cooking merit badge just so you know
Oh, well if it takes years to change something that will cease discrimination…
yatsey - Yes, but once again, no one is forcing you to join boy/girl scouts. If a girl wants to learn how to hunt, there are PLENTY of other ways to do so. These are private organizations that should be allowed to make whatever rules they want - it’s just like scholarships. If a company wants to give money to black-americans, they have the right to do so.
Jesus people, stop whining.
+1, I’ll save my time and use this as a great example about how I feel, wait, poo.
i was in boy scouts and my troop didnt hate on gays. i did, but that had nothing to do with boy scouts. i didnt like them before or after i was in scouts.
I would just like to point out I don’t care, I’m just saying there’s no argument.
But yes, no one’s forcing you, however fundamentally it’s wrong. Having an effectively sexist scheme running, if I were to start my own version of the KKK it wouldn’t be okay just because I wouldn’t force people to join.
I really don’t see the problem with people wanting to keep things just for boys or just for girls. There is a difference between the 2 sexes and they don’t need to be blended to fit someones agenda. Frankly, I’m happy there is a boys bathroom and a girls bathroom and I’m glad there are differences between the sexes. The should be a difference. Why do people have an issue accepting that?
Cooking is something both men and women do everyday. Single men have to cook for themselves, right? Some women like to hunt and any survival skill can be helpful to each sex. But these things don’t define a woman or a man. Seems like everyone wants to “push the boundaries”, but I don’t like where it’s headed…
Why do only single men have to cook for themselves? Is it the assumption that it is a wife’s duty to cook for her husband?
Jeff,
DB did not say “Only single men…” Why are you taking it out of context?
Them why say single?
I’m simply making a joke about the sexism and gender role stereotyping implied by his comment.
