giraffe technique

I’m fairly new to the giraffe, but I can successfully free mount, and ride.
My problem is, when I ride, it’s very jerky. Not a smooth continuous pedal,
but a lot of small, jerky pauses to correct my balance. This goes away,
right? Do I just need to get used to the different balance, since it’s so
much taller? And I’ve heard from some that they consider giraffes easier
to stay on, because you have so much time to correct your fall, but how do
they compare when it comes to a comfortable ride? I feel like the uni is
leaning forward more than it should, and I’m not sitting straight down on
the seat. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!-- Alex

Re: giraffe technique

Alex, just one more thought on this problem. I havn’t ridden my 20" for some
time now (been staying with my 26"). When I first began to ride it again, I
discovered that my motions were also jerky and anything but smooth. This got me
to thinking that perhaps the problem you’re having may be an (adjustment time)
due to the change of wheel size as well as the change in height. Just a thought,
Mike (Sure wish I could free mount a giraffe).

Smooth ride and turning come with a little practice.

Several members of my club and I find it more comfortable to ride a
giraffe with the seat rotated so that the wide part is in front. Try it
both ways to see which you prefer.
