Giraffe Jumping?

I’ve been jumping with my giraffe for several years now (amongst other rough
treatment) , and have managed repeatedly to separate the sprocket from the
crank, so that when you turn the pedals, the gears don’t move (i.e.: BAD)

I’ve had the sprocket welded in place, but am wondering if anyone else has
had problems with their crank separating from the sprocket, and what did you
do to fix it?

I’m riding a 5’ Semcycle, but have don’t the same thing to 3 or 4 other
giraffe’s through the years. Is a “supercrank” of some kind available?

Re: Giraffe Jumping?

Paul,

If you have one of the older Sem 5’ giraffes they have a BMX bottom bracket
with an adaptor to fit a standard mountain bike style one in. If this is
the case you are lucky, remove the adaptor and fit a one-piece BMX bottom
bracket, the children’s ones come with 4.5" cranks and have a small sprocket
on them.

I wanted to reply to my own post, to thank Sem at semcycle, who not only
takes the time to keep up with this group, but when he heard that I had a
problem with one of his uni’s, he emailed me privately to offer to replace
the damaged part!

If only Microsoft would learn from Sem and send fixed programs to everyone
who complains about them…

Er… do Microsoft have any “fixed” programs post DOS era?

Honest: I have a perfect hourglass figure…head full of sand and bottom
getting heavier by the minute. Naomi

i’ve got a girrafe that looks like a 5.5 nimbus( it came from odballs in campden), i’ve got some new chain tensioners to replace the nasty litle bent bit of metal welded to a washer style ones that came on it, but i’m going to need to get a longer chain to
fit them, while i’m at it i might just get a better sprocket/crank set (the current top sproket looks kind of cheap), the crank axle looks like a normal cotterless bike type,

do you recon there are any other considerations for replacing it with normal bike parts?
what happens to a girrafe if you change the gearing ratio?

anyway i’ll see you tomorow if your at the scottish juggling convention,

Yah, they’re fixing them all the time! I keep getting the “Critical Update
Notice” thingy popping up in the corner of my screen. As long as their OS
software is going to be buggy and vulnerable to security threats, I find
this optional feature quite handy.

Re: Re: Giraffe Jumping?

I have had nothing but good things to say about Sem. Eventhough my problems were nothing like this ( a lost set of dust caps, and a messed up crank bolt) he was so helpful. If only more businesses took the same approach to customer service as Semcycle and Unicycle.com I would be much happier to buy things without wondering if my service contract will run out the day before something goes wrong.
