Recently I was bored and wrote about Duck tape.
But remember when ready.gov told us to buy duck tape?
If I may believe the newsreports there were no tapes left on any DIY shop.
Meanwhile on the internets there were sceptici throwing up conspiricy-theories and rumours about Henkel having a secret relationship with the pentagon.
But now I think I may have found the reason why they recommended Duck Tape.
People who were a young kid in 1951, were brainwashed and indoctrinated with propaganda.
Examples of these movies you will find in this collection.
Click on the modem-speed of your choise at the movie “Duck and Cover”.
I’m pretty sure the “Duck” part must still be floating around in the head of a today’s decision-maker of the ready.gov campain.
Don’t be surprised if in the future they will find mummies embalmed with… duck tape.
Other movies that are interresting are “Operation Cue”, about a atomic bomb test done in Nevada exactly 50 years ago.
And the movie “My Japan” from 1945 (which contains racism and heavy violence!).
Especially the language being used in the movies addressed to adults sound very familiar to me.
Oups again. And I thought Safari was the pickiest browser.
Happened while making “embargo posts” (I forgot I had w3c’s validator running on a local server local for testing stuff behind pwds!)
i’ve heard that u can ‘repair’ a pair of jeans by sticking tape on both sides and ironing over it to make a near permanent bond
but i can’t remember if this was supposed to work with ducktape, gaffertape or fillament tape
anybody ever hear of this?
I’ve been taping ducks together with duck tape for several decades with moderate success. Then I switched to duct tape, the stuff that is supposed to be used for sealing ventilation ducts. This works much better.
I heard a story on NPR about a study concerning duct tape. It was determined that duct tape works very well on practically anything EXCEPT ducts and that almost any other type of tape works better on ducts than duct tape. The study was probably conDUCTed by quacks.
It is interesting that a company named “Duck” actually makes a form of duct tape. I wonder if they make duck calls also.
Duck brand duct tape is really good stuff. Wal-Mart el cheapo duct-type tape leaves sticky residue on the tops of trucks when using it to mount unicycle signs for parades. You go Goo-Gone!
If you use Duck brand duct tape to secure ducks in a saltines box, you’d have a box of quackers.
it’s when u make a mistake like that that u really hope that Harper is out telling TomBlackwood that his shoelaces are untied and doesn’t actually read the forum that day…
oh well
back to my original question tho
anybody ever hear of the tape-and-iron way of repairing jeans?
I haven’t repaired jeans that way, but I have done it with socks. One slab of tape on the inside, one on the outside. Works pretty well, you can even get 2 or 3 washes out of it. Never tried ironing. Be warned, I was threatened with dumpage from my then gf if I continued doing it… I get the feeling my current gf would feel the same way
no, it’s not ductape that’s used
yes, there used to be a iron-on patch that you could cut to size.
but, I haven’t seen them sold since … the early 70’s?
