Does anyone here do GeoCaching? My brother just got a GPS locator for it.
You go to the website http://www.geocaching.com and type in your Zip Code, then you are given a set of coordinates where apparently there is hidden a sort of treasure thing. You use the GPS locator to find it. I haven’t ever tried it, but it sounds like fun.
I’ve done it once.
Geocaching takes away from the unicycling time so I don’t make the time to do it. I’d rather do muni than hike around looking for a cache.
GPS receivers are cool little toys. I use mine to keep me from getting lost when exploring new trails. The GPS receiver also acts as a trip computer keeping track of distance and speed. Since I don’t have a cycle computer on my muni the GPS receiver comes in handy for estimating how far I’ve gone during a ride. The GPS receiver can also tell me how high a climb was and how much total elevation gain there was during a ride.
I’ve been looking at the website for a while, and I’ve got a GPS that I use when I’m treeplanting, but I’ve never actually gone to look for a cache.
i’ve geocached alot around austin. it’s alot of fun. i do it with an 8 year old. the ‘treasure’ usually appeals to kids, but sometimes not. there’s one cache around austin where you exchange music/mp3/dvd or software on cd’s. pretty cool.
