I am not quite sure but I think I heard somewhere that it is 100mb, I could be wrong though(and I probably am). I have seen videos larger than 18mb., I think…
I don’t know what the hard limit is. I’m sure Gilby has put some sort of a max limit on file size. But whatever that max limit is, it’s irrelevant because there is a soft limit on the file size that it will accept. That soft limit seems to be around 18 MB or 19 MB in my experience. I haven’t been able to upload files bigger than about 19 MB. The upload will complete, but will fail during verification. It’s as if it times out during the upload.
For now I just keep my uploads below 19 MB. I haven’t been concerned about it yet. When the new version of the gallery software is available and Gilby can upgrade, then I’ll worry about it. If the file size is still limited after the upgrade then we can raise the issue and see if Gilby can fix it.
If you really really need to put a larger file in the gallery then you could put it in a public FTP directory or some other publicly available place and ask Gilby to manually copy it over to your gallery. If you’re nice he might be able to do it.
I’ll adhere to the 19 MB ‘soft limit’ too, also because it keeps downloads manageable for viewers. I don’t have a file to upload yet, but giocologgi will send me his uncompressed uni-movie on CD and I’ll try to divx it down. May take a while. Thanks John and Catboy for the replies.

I’m pretty sure that there is no size limit… Or, if there is, it’s around 500 MB. I’ve uploaded a 77 MB video, and I’ve seen a 126 MB video.
Since neither John nor James are crazy, it’s either that the limit has been tightened after those big files were uploaded, or James had a way to get around the ‘soft limit’, or it depends somehow on upload speed (cf John’s “as if it times out” remark). Or something I’ve overlooked.

If it really is a problem with some process timing out then people uploading over a dial-up connection will have a lower max uploadable file size. I’m not sure that is the case. I could switch to my backup dial-up account and experiment, but I’m not that curious.
