Full Face Helmets

Hey guys,

I know that there are a few riders that have been riding with full face helmets lately and I bet a majority of you are asking why so much for just a unicycle. Last weekend I found out for a third time why full face helmets are a joy! Luckily this time the camera was rolling. I walked away from the fall just fine with a cactus stuck in my side and a mouth full of dirt.

I normally dont get vaulted to the ground that fast and with the helmet I was able to let my entire body take the hit vs just my arms and hands. Safety is key for longevity guys so stay safe and dont be afraid to try new things.

hahahaha those comments are great!!!

Thanks for the link

WT…? Wow, If I tried this, I would also wear a full-face helmet

From the comments there’s some people who think you should get a Darwin award for that!

Total Darwin award winner!

Jacob, you don’t need a facemask, you need a crash pad!!

That was quite a leap of “faith”. Did you think about setting up some padding on the far side for your fall zone?

Honestly, based on the speed and angle of entry, you’re lucky you didn’t break bones.

Ah, to be young (and dumb) again.

Thanks for reminding me how I got to be so sore and crippled as an adult :stuck_out_tongue:

Congratulations on walking away from this! I can’t tell from the video but do you wear goggles or any other type of protective eyewear? I have a full face helmet that I didn’t wear much in the Summer but I’ve been riding faster over obstacles which I’m more likely to hit in a position where face protection would be advisable.

Actually I believe that he can only be honorable mention because he wasn’t actually removed from the gene pool, but he should definitely get it.

Also, I forgot to say awesome job! That’s a huge drop and you almost cleaned it (let alone clearing the valley)! Did you consider building a small landing? It seems like the area where you land is slightly inclined the wrong way.

Full face helmets also look very cool :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I am waiting to see a vid of you completing this jump and riding on …:p;)

Very impressive…both the jump and the recovery! Glad you weren’t hurt. Sorry about the cactus and the dirt.

Also, great press on yahoo news.

…and Reddit too; link.

Quick! Get over there and post some of your stuff - might as well capitalise on the free publicity.

Honestly this was the dumbest drop Ive done in a while, lately I have been against jumping to flat. I wanted to keep the “free ride” raw vibe so I just wanted to go for it and move the big boulder out of the way. I didnt want to remove the cactus near the landing because I hate killing it, I think its pretty cool how they live.

About the helmets! If you are guys are gonna get one get a GOOD helmet. Something that is light and comfortable to move around in. Its amazing how a full face will change the way you fall. I fall a lot more relaxed now and i think this helps me not break as much, more of bending now.

Does the darwin award mean cash money?? If so where do I sign up!? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think so, that would be crazy. Winning a darwin award is not a good thing.

That was an epic jump! Congratulations for surviving it! Great video!

Yeah, who would imagine that there could be consequences to your lower face on a little jump like that? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good for you, Jacob, you’re smarter than the average 20-year old. That was a great clip, and I’m with Billy on hoping to see a future version where you stick that landing and roll away!

Very ballsy – maximum style points, too!

Jacob you are so bad-ass!

I used to have 661 Strike helmet but it showed up too hot for our weather. Sold.

Now I purchasing 661 Comp Shifted FF helmet due to more vent holes.

wow that gap was huge!!! :astonished:

What Full Face are you using? when i tried one i found it restricted my vision allot but it was a really cheep one so i am thinking about trying a better one.
