Hey, I just got a new laptop and it only came with a 30 day trial of virus protection. Are there any protectors kinda like Macafee or Norton that I could download off of the internet. Peronal experience or advice would be helpful. Thanks.

AVG is free.
Just google AVG virus protection. Its pretty good. For free
im using nod32, the thing has expired so i dont get updates but its still doing the job, i think.
I think AVG updates itself just like Norton. So I think its your best bet for free virus protection. It is not however what I use. I have good ol’ norton/symantec.
you can get macafee free from aol…
Avast and AVG are both free for home use. Both work well and do automatic updates online to get the latest virus signatures and do program updates. You do need to jump through a few registration hoops to get the free versions, but it’s all straight forward and they don’t spam you or sell your email address.
Both Avast and AVG do a good job of protecting you. It’s personal preference as to which one you prefer as far as UI and program operation. I’ve used both. Currently I’m using AVG.
Keep an eye out on resource use for the various antivirus products. Some of them can suck down resources and noticeably slow down your computer. See the article from Coding Horror, Choosing Anti-Anti-Virus Software. You’ll see there that the bloated big name products like Norton or McAfee can suck down 20% of the CPU and delay file IO by 2000%. AVG and Avast are svelte and fast in comparison.
There is no need for a home user to pay for antivirus programs since AVG and Avast are free. Business users will have to pay for a commercial product though.
Yeh, AVG is good, i used to have that but now i have the full norton internet security …bought off ebay
email me and i can tell you how to get kaspersky. it was voted the no. 1 virus protection suite. my license key was blacklisted but there may be some new ones out. anywho pm me or email and ill either send you a copy or show you how to dl it or something similar.
Since they are all free. I would get more than one. Then you can scan things twice. And Be absolutley SURE of it.
