So I’ve finally recieved enough points on my TrialClix to get the free Nintendo DS that I signed up for. However, I ended up getting more points than I anticipated, and now I could also get a free PS2 or xBox instead. I am tempted to get a PS2 because Katamari is the greatest game ever invented, but my reasoning for getting the DS is that PS2 and xBox are soon going to become obsolete and I should just wait to get a PS3 or xBox 360, or wait for the price drop on PS2 and xBox.
Any suggestions?
well…if you can get it for free, you might as well. you won’t be able to get the PS3 or XBox 360 for free, will you?
I can but I’d have to get a heck of a lot more points, and I’ve already completed all the offers I can without having to spend any money. The thing is once the PS3 and xBox360 come out the price of PS2s and xBoxs will be cut in half.
Any extra points I have I can hopefully turn into Amazon gift cirtificates to buy games.
Maybe get the xbox, sell it right away and save money for the 360? Would you be able to sell it for enough you think?
I think it’s probably already too late to sell an xBox for a decent amount of money. My plan when I signed up was to get a DS, so I’ll probably still do that. Who knows once my points get cleared maybe something will actually be out of stock with them and I won’t be able to make the choice anyway.
Just Curious, Mind explaining what is required from you to do this? Do they send you a bunch of e-mails? Do they need a Credit Card? What are the Online Offers you have to participate in?

After that to get points you mostly have to sign up for free trials and then remember to cancel before they charge you. These do require a credit card, but as long as you stay on top of it they never charge you. Some of the other offers are for getting credit cards, I ended up getting about 4 new credit cards because of, I just checked to make sure they didn’t have any annual fee. A couple of the cards there do, most don’t and even offer 6 months no interest, so I got them used them for a few purchases and paid them off.
The only money it actually cost me was for a couple of things I was going to do anyway, for example the Netflix offer you now have to actually become a paid member for a month, but I was planning on joining Netflix anyway so at least I got points for it. That and opening an ING direct savings count, it was something I was thinking about doing anyway.
The only hassle really was that some of the trials required making a phone call to cancel, and then of course they try to talk you out of cancelling.
So yes it’s a hassle, and if you’re not diligent you might get some stuff charged on your credit card.
If you’re worried about giving out your credit card information online then this definitly isn’t for you.
So all in all i’ve spent about 2 hours of hassle for something that costs about $100. To me I think that’s worth it.
Personally I like TrialClix over some of the other freeipod, etc sites because you’re not dependent on getting other people to sign up. You do get points for referrals however.
But to answer your questions directly:
Signing up for tiral offers and remembering to cancel. They don’t send you a bunch of emails. You do need a credit card. All kinds of offers too many to list, you’d have to sign up to see the whole list of offers, and the list of available rewards.
Thanks. I’m not particularly concerned about using a card, just curious. I am not to excited about applying for multiple cards though. It will put a hurtin on your Credit Rating. Of course this would be temporary, but would be an issue if you were about to buy a car or house. I may give it a go when I have some time Thanks for the info.
Yeah I just bought a car and a house is still at least 5 or more years away from me. That’s also why I made sure to use each of them and pay them off. I just liked the credit card offers because they are worth more poitns than most of the other offers and you don’t have to worry about cancelling later.
It’s probably actually better for your long term credit rating to open them up, use it once or twice, pay it off and close them. Because it gets put on your credit report as a reference. Otherwise you face the problem I’ve had where I have a good credit score, but not enough credit references.
Actually leaving them open doesn’t hurt at all. It’s the multiple inquirys, and carrying a balance that kills your score. In some cases it even improves your score. They look at total credit versus total debt as part of the formula.
So someone with $100,000 in credit card credit, and a balance of $5,000 is better than someone with $5,000 in credit with $4,000 balance. It would seem that the $4,000(The lower) would be better, but it isn’t.
Of course ability to pay is the most important.
As far as I am concerned the best way to build credit is to use it, as long as you do so responsibly. Everything I would normally put on my debit card, I instead put on a credit card with a 0% introductory, and then pay it off as soon as the bill comes.
Just think of how cheap PS2 games will be after the PS3 has sat on the shelf for a while… and there are enough good PS2 games on the market to keep you busy until the PS4 comes out

All this excitement about actually having everyhtign fall into place about getting a free nintendo DS from TrialClix. Makes me want to try to get a free xBox360 as well. Since it costs way too many points on TrialClix than are feasibly possible I want to try to get one from freexBox360.com. But of course they require you to get friends to sign up too. They have some easy to complete offers though. Like eFax, you need a credit card to sign up for the free trial, but they are fast to give credit, and easy to cancel. you can do it through their customer support chat, you don’t even have to call them.
This one unfortunately you need to get other peopel to sign up for, but you should try it anyway.

Nevermind I am a jerk. I just read the fine print and eFax doesn’t give you credit until after the 30 day trial runs out. So the only truely free option is to apply for a credit card and actually be accepted for it and then make a purchase with it, or to sign up for Complete Home whcih costs $1, but you get a $20 Lowe’s gift card free.
That or you can sign up for RealRhapsody for $.99 and they give you 5 free songs.
So of course the deal turns out to be not that great afteall so you guys might as well ignore it.

Another update. Although the eFax offer says you need to sign up for a month before you get credit, one of my friends signed up for the eFax offer, and after realizing that you need to be a paid member, she cancelled the eFax membership (it’s easy you can do it online). Then today on the free360xBox site it’s showing up that she completed an offer, so I have a new faith in the site and encourage you to sign up since the eFax offer shows up as completed almost immeidately.
