Free speech and the internet

Interesting story.

Seem that a guy had problems with a VW dealership and posted a warning on
a message board about the dealer. Many people chimed in about their own
run-in’s with the dealer (good and bad)

Well that dealer is now suing the poster that started the thread, and the
owners of the messageboard (well almost… seems they sent the summons to
the wrong company) for slander/liable.

story here http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/epaper/editions/saturday/metr-

You VW guys out there might want to post these links on any VW board you
frequent. You also might want to make a mention of this on Porsche , Audi
sites you happen to visit as this dealer sells them also.

It really pays not to sue your customers

That’s just bullshit!

Everyone on the VW Vortex forums complains about dealerships all the time.
I did it myself.

BTW - Volkswagen owns vwvortex.com

it doesn’t look like Volkswagen owns vwvortex.com?
http://www.betterwhois.com/bwhois.cgi?domain=vwvortex.com

it’s owned and ran by vortex media…

I checked back there today… looks like the dealer is going to to drop
the case. What I really find cool is all the support from other makes
fan sites… the count is over 130 sites, that’s a ton of people to piss
off even for a local dealer.

From my brief looksee I think VW supports/approves of the site not owns
the site. But I might be wrong

It’s owned by Jaime Von Druska, who works for VW. I know this because I’ve
dealt with him directly. When I had problems with my dealership, and he
saw my posts on their message boards, he contacted me, and said he would
personally deliver my letter to VW Corporate. He did and I recieved a
phone call within one day, and my matter was cleared up within a week.

It’s bullshit that another dealership is suing someone because they
expressed their opinions on a pubic forum. They won’t win. Volkswagen
simply won’t let it happen. VW has a HUGE influence on the dealerships,
and contrary to the dealerships’ behaviors, they care about customers.

That still doesn’t mean that it’s owned by volkswagen. Just because I work
for xerox doesn’t mean xerox owns ihateclowns.com.

I think some companies (especially big ones) force their employees to sign
a contract which stipulates that “anything created by the employee during
his/her employment by the company becomes property of the company…”
Something to that effect. It might be what Mike K. is driving at.

I’ll rephrase my statement:

“VW Vortex is closely affiliated with Volkswagen of America, Corp.”
