Who know’s a FREE movie converter program?
Not a trial version with a watermark on the screen.
Help me please:o
i have one called RAD video tools, do a search (here) and you should be able to find it, if that doesnt work then you could do a google search
there are many threads on this exact topic
I found a prety good one:

Videora converts anything to mp4 format. I think you can get it o convert it to some other format but I’m not sure.
i use a converter called SUPER.
simplified Universal player Encoder and Renderer.
i love it, it converts pretty much every format, to any format, you can choose all the settings like frame rate and audio and lots of other stuff. it’s totally free with no watermark on the screen, and no time limitations or anything.
scroll to the bottom of the page and click download now
happy converting
What do you want to convert and what do you want it to be? that is the biggest issue when finding a conversion program. There are a ton out there but each one has its restrictions and for some video formats there may only be one converter out there. For some videos I have to use two converters to get the video in the right format.
these are the files that SUPER does:
- Video format: 3gp/3g2(Nokia,Siemens,Sony,Ericsson) asf, avi (DivX,H263,H263+,H264,XviD,MPEG4,MSmpeg4 etc…), dat,
fli, flc, flv (used in Flash), mkv, mpg (Mpeg I,Mpeg II), mov(H263,H263+,H264,MPEG4 etc…), mp4(H263,H263+,H264,MPEG4), ogg,
qt, rm, ram, rmvb, str (Play Station), swf (Flash), ts (HDTV), viv, vob, wmv - Audio format: ac3, amr, mp2, mp3, mp4, mpc, ogg, ra, wav, wma
- AviSynth Script Files: avs. Let you specify advanced encoding commands using AviSynth scripts!
I just dl’ed SUPER. It is extremely good. It’s not often that software this good is made, and when its creators let people download it for free it makes me very happy.
Super
Does ‘super’ have a few editing features as well?
can you add special fx and stuff like that to it?
nah its just a converter, not like windows movie maker or something. although you can change settings like fps, scree size ratios and lots of other stuff i dont understand.
It uses a lot of GPL libraries and code to do do the converting. So the free part comes with the territory (the use of GPL code). A project like SUPER would not be possible without the work of many GPL projects that do the actual encoding and decoding. Standing on the shoulders of giants as it were. I don’t know if SUPER © is a GPL project, but it is certainly making use of the work from other GPL projects.
SUPER © is “just” a nice UI along with some glue that ties all those separate encoders and decoders together into a useful application.
yeaaaaah i dunno what the hell GPL is :S or what it does. all that matters to me is that it converts whatever i chuck at it into stuff i need.
That enthusiasm is a good enough reason to read the Wikipedia link for GPL and learn a little about what it is and what it does. It’s what makes projects like SUPER © practical.
i read it, go GPL
It’s handy softwareto have, i’m glad it’s free.
will this convert Quicktime videos into Windows media video format??
Yes.
ok i downloaded it and am trying to convert “syko crap” it is in quicktime… and it has been encoding for 45 minuits!!! how long should this take??? and what shold the bitrate be? now it is at default and is at 1008 kbps
I am not sure how long it should take, but if it taking that long, go out side and uni, practice a trick for a while, then come back. =p
