Fourth draft of rec.sport.unicycling RFD (archive location change)

Hi Everyone!

This fourth draft of the rec.sport.unicycling RFD has only a single change in
the location of the archives.

If we are to ensure the best chances for rec.sport.unicycling to pass, we must
convince people why having rec.sport.unicycling would be a great asset to
USENET. Our mailing list doesn’t have the suggested volume that usually warrants
the creation of newsgroup, so we have to come up with other reasons for
newsgroup creation. Please read the following RFD with a critical mind and offer
your suggestions for improvement. You will be credited as a proponent in the
final RFD.

If you still have the newsgroup creation guidelines sent to the list on January
8, you may want to refer to them as you read the RFD, and slap me on the wrist
for any infractions.

Sincerely,

Ken Fuchs <kfuchs@winternet.com>

Proposed newsreader description line:

rec.sport.unicycling All sorts of fun on one wheel.

RATIONALE

Huge variations in traffic on the Unicycling Mailing List has been so great
that numerous people have unsubscribed. Although average traffic in November
was only 7 messages per day, there were numerous days with 30-40 messages. The
only reasonable way to deal with this traffic for many people, is the creation
of a related newsgroup, rec.sport.unicycling. List membership peaked at 130 a
few months ago.

In a recent poll of members of the mailing list, 60 percent would use the
newsgroup exclusively, 22 percent would use both the newsgroup & the mailing
list, and 18 percent would use the mailing list exclusively.

NAME

The name should probably be rec.sport.unicycling, to match the directly
related Unicycling Mailing List. The most appropriate first level
hierarchy would be rec. Although there are both sport and artistic
aspects to unicycling, a second level hierarchy of sport would probably
be better than art.

NEWSGROUP CREATION

The discussion period will start on the date this RFD is posted and last for
at least 21 days, but not more than 31 days.

Please post all discussion in news.groups.

If a consensus is reached by the end of the discussion period, a CFV (Call for
Votes) will be posted at that time. The voting period will last for 21 days.

I have no experience with newsgroups and will leave the judgement to the
experts. I’ll go along with everyone’s opinion.

Just a monir point, but my ANYONE CAN RIDE A UNICYCLE was officially published
under trhe auspices of the IUF. Might as well throw it in.
