That was one of the guys from Puerto Rico, he was pretty good at Trials n’ stuff.
Hey Felix,
The website you offered, www.unicykel.com, has some great shots of UNICON XI.
Thanks,
Bruce

I suddenly feel less accomplished with my little 6 inch side hop
yesterday.

Thanks for the link. Definately worth checking out everyone!
Don’t try this at home, kids!
Not really OT, because Muni happens in the woods…
I don’t know where this pic was taken, and it probably doesn’t matter… the appropriate caption would read:
HOW TO GET GIARDIASIS WITH BOTH HANDS…
Filter water from streams, people! Your guts will thank you!
I don’t think he’s drinking, I think the guy is overjoyed and in awe at seeing the exquisite beautiful the American carp.
He might have ridden so hard to the point of puking, now he’s cleaning himself off.

THAT’S DISGUSTING! As well as being decidedly unclean and revolting and something that should not be done in any pristine environment’s water supply… The poor fishies!
Now that you mention it, Adam, …and I’ve had a closer look, …I can see how maybe one could construe that the guy’s merely politely covering his nose and mouth while he sneezes, so as not to disturb the fishies or give the newly hatching tadpoles a virus which he may be carrying in his schnoz,…
… but then, how do you explain the next picture?
I mean, didn’t the guy ever hear of an aquarium?
He wanted to get a closer look at that fish:D
he’s just looking for a place to put a bolt.
Nobody can make you feel any way whatsoever. You and you alone are responsible for your own feelings…
You make yourself feel the way you feel. Go search and make yourself feel whatever you like and leave me out of it.
PS: You forgot to look at the keys again…
Where did you get that quote?I dont see anywhere that i wrote it
Everybody,Did you see that picture of that guy going for a crank grab or somthing while standing on the tire I think its on page 3.
Those are great pictures. Many thanks to the Danish team for making them available. My family and I took many pictures and much video but the pictures from many different sources, perspectives, and persons are valuable to us for UNICON memory’s sake. I keep them in a collective file of Seattle pictures.
One step further, thanks to all who posted pictures of the events.

probably no tadpoles in stream
well probaly no tadpoles or fishes would live in tha tsmall stream. its to fast a current for tadpoles, tehy like stale unmoving water, so the eggs dont get washed away, and for the fish, it just looks to small for full sized fish to be spooning. As for never drink water from creeks, well do u think that for thousands for years people have had bottled water to drink from? no. they had to drink from creeks, and wells, rivers, springs, rainfall, stuff like that, if it had been so bad, then we woulnt be here cuz itd of killed us off. So my way of thinking is if we were able to drink it before we shoudl eb abel to drink it now, or other things like that. but only if its actualy clean, nothing like near a factory, or plant, or somthin glike that, thats probably contaminated, or a mine.
Re: probably no tadpoles in stream
You do not want to dring unfiltered or untreated water from a mountain stream. You’ll very likely get a nasty bacteria or parasite that will curn your guts and and give you a nasty case of the runs.
The water may look clean, but it’s not. Animals poop in and near the water upstream. The bacteria and parasites get into the stream and stay happy there for many months just waiting for someone to drink them so they can start growing again.
They may have hiked way up the mountain above the lodge where the risk of water contamination is less, but that is still no guarantee that the water is safe to drink.
Do not drink water from streams unless you have a proper filter that will filter out the bad bacteria, or have a chemical treatment that will kill the bad bacteria.
If you’re out riding carry more water than you think you will need caue the water in the streams is not your friend.
Do a Google search on “mountain stream filter water giardiasis”. Here is the first link from that search.

Nah, stream water is great. I drank it all the time on the Muni fun rides, when i didn’t have my camel back. I’m not saying its clean…but it had no effect on my stomach. All I can say is, its the freshest water you can get, straight out of the mountain, with all the minerals, its as cold as ice water, and when your riding and your thirsty and tired, bam…it gives you the energy to finish.
But i would definetly pass up a drink if it were near civilization. The only reason i drank it was because we were on the top of a mountain isolated from everything in Washington state…it aint gunna get any better than that. Animals? I dunno, i didn’t see much, just a little chipmunk, a garter snake, and suprizinly just a couple birds.

Thank you for the lesson in evolutionary theory, brokenframe. Your words may be more prophetic than you know.
John, it’s no use! They can’t see it. They didn’t see it. It weren’t there. Everybody knows that the only way you can get to a mountain top is with a 4WD or a Muni or MTB. Animals don’t have these, so, they just don’t go to mountain tops and pee in the water there. And people NEVER pee in the water.

Urine in the water is not a problem; icky, but safe.
Shit in the water, on the other hand, is vile, poisonous, microbe-infested
bad news.
Think he could infer anything if he knew that 5 or 6 percent of all the
humans who ever lived are alive right now, or that the population went up a
couple of orders of magnitude when people figured out basic sanitation: cook
meat, boil water, shit downstream…
Nah.

Right you are Scott. I should have said “crap”. All the same, it’s probably smart to consider all body fluids to be potential biohazards.
BTW, this is ON TOPIC for Muniers. As far as I know, there haven’t been any threads along the lines of proper care of the environment while out there. Where you dump and where you drink is important. Be responsible and be safe!
People who habitually drink from the same local untreated water source tend to build up resistance to the local microbes in the water. The average city-dweller who drinks only treated city water or bottled water has nearly no resistance to microbes present in wild water sources. If you’ve drunk stream water before and didn’t experience any ill effects, consider yourself lucky. That is the exception rather than the rule. Ask 'em at your local backpacking shop.
