Foot padding?

Ok this probably sounds silly and I think I know what the answer will end up being buttt.

Came off my coker at speed and landed on my right foot crushing my heal bone. Now I have 4 drywall screws in my extrawide heal. I was out for 5 months, but I just hopped back on today and started riding like nothing happened.

I want to make sure there isn’t something I should be doing to protect my ankles like I do with my wrists. I was wearing my 5-10 impacts at the time which are really thick. Maybe too hard?

Anyways I’m sure this was just a freak accident and won’t happen again, but it was also the worst thing and I would hate myself if it happened again.

I’m a huge fan of D3O and wear a variety of pads that incorporate it. The recently came out with a line of footwear products that look really promising:

It may take a while for companies to get these into their products but I definitely would buy an insole with D3O cushioning the heel which would absorb some of the impact of heel strikes.

A gel heel insert will help a teeny bit.
Better is to land on your toes.

I thought the point of D3O was that it hardens on impact. How would that help with cushioning?

It hardens at the point of impact and absorbs some of the force. The whole pad doesn’t harden, transferring the force. Under normal (warm) conditions it’s malleable. It’s a little heavier than regular soft pads but less restrictive and a lot more comfortable than hard pads.
