And second, a commentary on the “liberal media” from Mallard Fillmore. (The referenced link is hard to read.)
Mallard Filmore mentions them again here.
What exactly are they? Just an organization for conservative-leaning women? I’m looking for some stuff on them, but I can’t find anything on what beliefs they follow.
And about the first one…I’m a Texan, so you won’t ever see me bashing HS football.
That’s why rugby is better. You don’t need all that pussy gear to play rugby.
Y’know, most liberals I know think the media is conservative. Most conservatives I know thing the media is liberal.
sigh
Well, somebody is right aren’t they?
Also depends on your definition of “liberal”.
I would say the media is a bunch of sensationalist idiots that don’t choose what they air based on politics but what will get ratings. For instance, in the fillmore comic, they air the SCARY obesity story over the BORING woman’s rights story.
Sure, it makes it LOOK like a liberal bias, but I can show you just as many examples of a conservative bias. What is REALLY happening here is a pick of sensationalist stories over “boring” stories. Then we have a textbook case of confirmation bias which causes the liberals to find what they are looking for and the conservative to find what they are looking for - this allows them to both pretend that they are victims of the BIG HORRIBLE (conservative/liberal) MAINSTREAM MEDIA MACHINE and that it’s the fault of the other side. Both sides are wrong because they are only seeing what they want to see.
Here’s an irony. Mallard Fillmore talks about another obesity story and Doonesbury does one.
The Seattle times runs Doonesbury on the editorial page during the week but on the comic pages on Sunday.
It’s untrue to call Americans fat. I don’t even know any “fat” people.
It doesn’t matter either way… “the media” is largely comprised of money-grubbing sensationalist half-wits peddling sex, crime and death… most of which can be said of politicians. Let’s find a media outlet that is devoid of such smut and then we can start talking…
Forrest, I hate to break it to you, but just because you don’t know about something doesn’t mean it’s nonexistent.
Fat and America go together like Rice and China. Like Beer and Germans. Like Wheels and Unicyclists. You can’t have one without the other.
Prickly City has been doing a “cut 'n paste bumper sticker” series this week (Click 'previous day" to see the rest).
Today’s hits both sides of the aisle.
This could go in a few different threads…
I tought you meant wheel? But, then again, the commonly ignored two-wheeled unicycles…
Yes, Seager is: “I would say the media is a bunch of sensationalist idiots that don’t choose what they air based on politics but what will get ratings.”
I never hear anyone complaining about the broadcast media’s obsession with ratings over content/accuracy/relevancy.
Also, not to sound like a complainer, I don’t read the Sunday comics any more. Ever since they started gluing ads to the comics, with a fold-over flap that’s actually part of the page and not removeable, I just found it too annoying in relation to the generally very mild, middle-America level of humor in there. If your Sunday paper’s comics section can still be read ad-free (doesn’t matter if they’re on the back) consider yourselves fortunate!
As an example of something less mild, I saw a live performance of Bill Maher last night in Reno. Very funny! Of course the Bush Administration/conservatives/religious right are giving him so much material to work with these days his work is almost too easy…
