i’ve been searching but i can’t find info about my problem and since there are allready so many folding@home threads, i figured one more won’t hurt
i’ve got the software downloaded on this PC but when i try n enter the team number in the ‘configure’ screen, (the number i found on a couple of the other threads), it tell me to enter a ‘correct’ number without spaces
i’ve checked and checked again, there are no spaces and yes i’m using the ‘right’ number
I checked the FAQ and found this info about the user name:
Are there any characters I should avoid in a username?
We strongly recommend to stick to just letters, numbers and underscore. Right now, we reserve the characters # ^ ~ |. # is used for firewall differentiation (see above). We want to save ^ | and ~ for other problems which might come up. Also, don’t put spaces in your username; please use some character like “_” instead.
Finally, please note that usernames are case sensitive, so “Dave” and “dave” and “dAVE” are all different usernames.
I’m not aware of any other issues with the user name.
There is a chance that they only expect “U.S.” characters. The basic ASCI I character set. They might not be able to handle accented characters or other characters that are unusual here in the US. That’s just a guess on my part.
I’m not sure what’s up with the team number thing. I looked through some of the various FAQs and did a quick search in the support forum and didn’t find anything addressing that problem. I’ll have another look-see to try to find anything that deals with that problem.
If things get desperate you could manually edit the client.cfg file in the Folding@Home directory. It’s a text file that holds your configuration settings, including your name and team number.
ok, i managed to join team numer…, oh i can’t remember now and i’m on the ‘other’ machine
but i managed to join the team
now i’m battling to get connected thru the firewall at work
this schtuff had better cure cancer or something by the time i’ve waded thru all this
The Folding@Home client uses port 8080 and/or port 80 to connect. Port 80 is the port used by your browser so that port should be open.
The client preferes to use port 8080, but if that port is blocked it will try to use port 80 instead.
You can also try pinging the servers listed here: F@H project summary. If you can ping the servers then you know those addresses aren’t blocked. However, that still doesn’t mean that the F@H client can use port 8080 or port 80. It just means that you can at least reach those servers.
Nope. Not a good sign. It means those address are being blocked by the firewall or some other filtering tool. If you can’t access those addresses you won’t be able to fold.
That site lists the server addresses for the active projects. There are other servers too in the same IP address area that you will also need to access. Also, as additional projects are added they may be assigned to new servers with a new IP address.
I’ll see if I can find an list of the IP addresses that the project uses.
So you’re going to need to get permission to access those IP addresses if you want to be able to fold.
