Flexibility

Is anyone here really inflexible?

Like the closest I can get to my toes is about 6 inches away.

Anyone else have this “problem?”

no

alrighty then.

1) Well i think i am but i’m getting to the point of where i can actually touch my toes. Thanks to work and my unicycle. :stuck_out_tongue:
2) Keep unicycling and you’ll be able to reach them soon enough.

I can put my palms flat to the ground when I bend over, or have my upper body parallel with my legs.

My arms are pretty flexible, but legs are lacking a bit. I can almost do the splits. Just a few inches away.

Its fun to be flexible.

Yoga did wonders for me. My hamstrings are still pretty tight, but I couldn’t touch my toes before I took a yoga class at college.

Now I can wrap my fingers around my toes. Still can’t touch my nose to my knees, but my instructor tells me that it’s possible if I practice more regularly.

Yes. It’s pretty pitiful.

Practice eating less?

How can you not be able to touch your nose with your nees?

haha, yeah I was thinking the same thing.
I can do it easily, can even touch my ear with my knee :stuck_out_tongue:

Stretching ability is like aerobic conditioning, it takes regular practice. Even the professional contortionists have to train very hard to be able to do what they do.

Just work at it gently each time you ride and it will come along nicely. Like Amanda and maestro8 said.

haha i didnt mean to seem rude, the reason im pretty flexable is because

A. Im doublejointed in my elbowws (weird)
B. Because i stretch alot

thats what i think anyways…

I didn’t think you were being rude, I just took it as you saying that most unicyclists stretch a lot.

I did gymnastics so I can do the splits, what now!

I’m extremely inflexible…

I can get 9" away from my toes if i try real hard. I haven’t met anyone who is less flexible than me.

i can reach my toes just fine… i dont know if it’s flexibility, but like, i can get my arm bend really wierd… like the elbow, the other way than it’s suposed to go… so much that if i have my arm strait down and do it, i cant see anything of my hand… it’s pretty wierd…

do you work on flexibility?

read anything aobut how to achieve it?

haha, nope

Cycling tends to shorten/tighten the hamstrings, making it even more difficult to touch your toes. You need to do stretches to counteract this effect.

The best stretch is one done when sitting down. Just standing then bending forwards in the middle can put a strain on your back.

I have had this problem all my life. Even as a kid I couldn’t easily touch my toes with my legs straight.

These days, I find it easier to keep in touch with my toes by webcam.:o

Stretching is really important when you are around my age.

If you don’t stretch much and you are an athlete it is pretty easy to get osgood schlauter (I am sure I spelled that wrong), and Sinding Larson Johanneson, which I have. Both of them really suck, and if you are going out for an hour to ride, make sure you put at least ten minutes into stretching. Not being able to ride for more than a year really sucks.
